Shanghai Disneyland Bag Essentials: Your Ultimate Packing Guide
WHAT BAG TO BRING TO SHANGHAI DISNEYLAND?
Hello everyone, after my recent trip to Shanghai, I realized that choosing a bag for Disneyland is just as important as choosing clothes. Because we'll have to walk an average of 15,000 - 20,000 steps, from early morning until late at night, a wrong bag can ruin the mood for the entire trip.
Today, I'd like to share some personal experience about setting up the bag when entering the park!
- Should you bring a Backpack or a Crossbody bag?
After much consideration, I chose to bring a medium-sized backpack. The reasons are:
Frees up hands: Extremely important for holding the phone to take videos and photos, holding a water bottle, or simply... eating ice cream.
Capacity: Going to Disney all day requires carrying a lot of small items (power bank, umbrella, raincoat...). A cute small crossbody bag looks great in photos but doesn't hold enough, and wearing it on one shoulder all day is very tiring.
💡 Small tip: If you want to take nice photos, you can bring a thin lightweight tote bag that folds and fits in the backpack. When taking pictures, take out the backpack, carry the tote bag for a "poetic" look, put it back after. Or a backpack with Mickey/Bear design to match the concept, when taking full-body photos, you can temporarily put the backpack on the ground. - What should be in the bag? (My checklist)
These are the "inseparable" items I recommend everyone must have:
🛂 Passport - TOP PRIORITY #1: Absolutely do not leave it at the hotel! Shanghai Disneyland entrance tickets are integrated directly with the passport number. At the ticket gate, staff will scan your passport to print the paper ticket and match your face. No passport means you'll definitely have to turn back. Additionally, shopping at some stores also requires a passport for tax refund (if any).
🔋 Power bank (Large capacity 10,000 - 20,000mAh): Extremely important! At Shanghai Disneyland, everyone has to use the App continuously to view the map, check wait times, book Standby Pass tickets, and take photos/videos. Phone battery will drain rapidly. Don't forget to bring the charging cable too!
💧 Empty water bottle: Don't bring heavy bottled water. In the park, right next to the restrooms, there are usually free filtered water dispensers (direct drinking faucets). Water in the park is quite expensive (about 100k VND/bottle), so bringing a bottle to fill up is the most economical.
☔ Thin raincoat (Convenient): The "Roaring Rapids" ride in Adventure Isle will definitely get you soaked like a drowned rat. Raincoats sold there are very "pricey" (about 10 RMB each thin one). Buy one in advance in Vietnam or from a convenience store outside and bring it in. Raincoat can also be used to line the seat when watching fireworks.
🧻 Dry tissues & Wet wipes: Essential for eating (because snacks like popcorn, turkey legs are quite sticky) and wiping sweat.
🧘♀️ Mini seat mat (Or old newspaper/plastic bag): Few people mention this but it's very necessary! Before the fireworks show (Illumination) by about 1-2 hours, everyone will have to reserve a spot by sitting directly on the hard and cold ground. Having a thin mat or newspaper to sit on will make it much more comfortable. - A few notes on Security Check 👮♀️ Shanghai Disneyland checks security quite strictly at the entrance gate:
❌ Absolutely do not bring: Selfie stick, folding picnic chair, knives or sharp objects.
Food: Allowed to bring sealed packaged food, candies, bottled water. Not allowed to bring strong-smelling food (instant noodles, durian...) or food that needs to be heated. - Shopping experience & "freeing" your shoulders
At Disney, everyone will definitely buy a lot of souvenirs (LinaBell bear, Duffy, cups, hats...).
Don't carry things awkwardly: If buying a lot from the morning, rent a Locker. There are lockers right at the main entrance or Guest Services area. Daily rental fee about 80 RMB (depending on locker size), but in return, you get free hands to play.
Bring an extra soft Tote bag: Folds and fits in the backpack. At the end of the day after shopping or picking up items from the locker, pull out this bag to hold all the loot to bring back to the hotel. - FINAL ADVICE 💡 Bring the most comfortable sneakers you have (prioritize Running/Walking line). Don't wear high heels or hard leather boots for the sake of looking good, after 15,000 steps your feet will blister.
Hope these small shares from me help everyone prepare the best. Going to Disneyland is to enjoy the magic, so prepare thoroughly so no small mishap ruins the mood!
Wish you a really magical trip with lots of nice photos! If you have any more questions, just comment! ❤️
