Moxy Kuala Lumpur Chinatown: A Stylish Stay in the City Center

Review: Moxy Kuala Lumpur Chinatown - Second Stay Insights

Due to an early 3 AM office requirement, I found myself staying at the Moxy Kuala Lumpur Chinatown again, following a visit the previous week. This hotel only commenced operations on April 1st. Situated on Jalan Hang Lekiu, the building originally served as the headquarters for Oriental Bank (later EON Bank) before its conversion into a hotel. Owned by YTL Corporation, Moxy is part of the Marriott portfolio. I booked a deluxe room again using the Marriott Bonvoy app, costing RM325.50. This price included breakfast for two but excluded taxes and service charges.

I arrived around 2:50 PM and proceeded directly to the counter located on the ground floor. The hotel lobby is quite spacious and features beautiful interior design. Check-in was swift, taking only a few minutes as I had already completed the online check-in process. Initially, I was assigned room 1208, the same room from the prior week. I politely requested a change from the staff, and they promptly moved me to a room on the 15th floor. The hotel is equipped with four elevators.

A Look at the New Room Configuration

The layout of this room differed somewhat from last week's, though the overall size was comparable. Upon entry, the washroom was immediately to the left of the corridor, followed by a separate shower area. The toilet area contained the water closet, while the shower space offered two types of showerheads. Both areas were similarly sized and felt somewhat compact.

To the right of the entrance corridor, there was an open hanging rack for clothes. In the main room area, a queen bed was positioned near the window. Underneath the bed, there was sufficient empty space for storing luggage. Adjacent to the left side of the bed was a lounge chair accompanied by a bedside lamp. Directly opposite the foot of the bed sat a cabinet housing a 55-inch television. The vanity sink area was located next to the shower room. This section also housed the safety deposit box and a mini-refrigerator. Beverage-making facilities were provided next to the sink. The hotel supplied a full amenity kit, including a toothbrush, hand towels, and face towels.

To maximize space efficiency, the hotel ingeniously provided a foldable desk and two folding chairs mounted on the wall beside the sink area. Guests can utilize this setup for office work or dining. This particular room offered a wonderful view overlooking the Maybank Tower and the Kuala Lumpur Tower.

Facilities and Connectivity

The hotel features a swimming pool located on the 9th floor. It is quite large and situated in an open-air area. A significant highlight is the stunning view from the pool deck, offering vistas of Merdeka 118 Tower and Maybank Tower. Adjacent to the pool area, there is a bar and a 24-hour gymnasium.

In-room Wi-Fi speed averaged around 15mbps. For cellular networks, CelcomDigi provided a robust speed of 278mbps, while Tune Talk clocked in at 148mbps. The hotel offers a Smart TV with only a few basic channels, though they are broadcast in HD quality. Water pressure in the bathroom was strong, and I was highly satisfied with the shower experience.

Breakfast is served on the 2nd floor. The selection at breakfast was relatively simple, offering only a few menu items, but I found it adequate for my needs.

Location and Service Impressions

As mentioned in my previous review, I remain captivated by the hotel's stunning interior design. For photography enthusiasts or those looking for good OOTD spots, this hotel is certainly a recommended choice.

The location places you right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city center; Dataran Merdeka is just 500 meters away, and Masjid Jamek Mosque is approximately 350 meters distant. My only reservation is the immediate vicinity, which is densely populated with expatriates. At night, the area can also attract many homeless individuals, which might make some guests uncomfortable strolling around after dark.

The hotel staff service was exceptionally friendly and welcoming; they greeted guests politely whenever they passed by. Their response time was also very quick; when my room key failed due to an internal lock error, they resolved the issue within minutes. For those relying on public transport, the hotel is conveniently close to the Masjid Jamek LRT Station, roughly 290 meters away.

I have included photographs taken during this week's stay. Readers interested in my other hotel reviews can visit my website at https://hanuds.wixsite.com/hanudds or check my posts in this group. Thank you for reading!
