Review: Moxy KL Chinatown's Second Visit & Impressive City Views
Due to an early 3 AM office commitment, I found myself checking into the Moxy Kuala Lumpur Chinatown once again, having stayed here just the previous week. This hotel officially commenced operations on April 1st. Situated on Jalan Hang Lekiu, the building originally served as the headquarters for Oriental Bank (later EON Bank) before its transformation into a modern hotel. Owned by YTL Corporation, it falls under the Marriott portfolio. I utilized the Marriott Bonvoy app again to book a Deluxe room for RM325.50. This rate included breakfast for two but excluded taxes and service charges.
I arrived around 2:50 PM and proceeded directly to the counter located on the ground floor. The lobby is quite spacious and features exceptionally beautiful interiors. Check-in was swift, as I had already completed the online process. Initially, I was assigned the same room as last week, room number 1208. I politely requested a change from the staff on duty and was subsequently moved to a room on the 15th floor. The hotel is equipped with four elevators.
Room Layout and Amenities
The room I occupied this time had a slightly different configuration compared to the previous week, though the overall size was comparable. Upon entry, the bathroom was on the left side of the corridor, followed by a separate shower area. The toilet contained the plumbing system, while the shower area offered two types of showerheads. Both spaces were similarly sized and felt somewhat compact.
On the right side of the entrance hall, there was an open area designed for hanging clothes. The main room featured a queen bed positioned next to the window. Underneath the bed, there was ample space for luggage storage. To the left of the bed sat a lounge chair and a bedside lamp. Opposite the foot of the bed was a cabinet housing a 55-inch television. The vanity area, which included the sink, was located adjacent to the shower room. This section also housed the safety deposit box and a mini-fridge. Coffee and tea making facilities were situated next to the sink. The hotel provided a comprehensive set of toiletries, including a toothbrush, hand towels, and face towels.
To maximize space efficiency, the hotel supplied a foldable desk and two folding chairs mounted on the wall near the sink area. Guests can use this setup for office work or dining. My room offered a fantastic view, overlooking the Maybank Tower and the Kuala Lumpur Tower.
Facilities Overview
The hotel features a swimming pool situated on the 9th floor. It is quite large and located in an open-air setting. What makes the pool area particularly appealing is the stunning view it offers, facing the Merdeka 118 skyscraper and the Maybank Tower. Adjacent to the pool, there is a bar and a 24-hour gymnasium.
Inside the room, the complimentary Wi-Fi speed hovered around 15mbps. For mobile connectivity, CelcomDigi provided a fast 278mbps, while Tune Talk clocked in at 148mbps. The hotel provides a Smart TV with only basic channels, though they are broadcast in HD. Water pressure in the bathroom was strong, and I was very satisfied with the shower performance. Breakfast is served at the restaurant on the 2nd floor. The breakfast spread was rather simple, offering only a few menu items, but in my opinion, it was adequate.
Location and Service Impressions
As noted in my previous review, I remain highly impressed with the hotel's beautiful interior design. For photography enthusiasts (OOTD shots), this hotel is definitely a recommended location. Its location is central to Kuala Lumpur City Centre, being only 500 meters from Dataran Merdeka and 350 meters from Jamek Mosque.
However, I am less keen on its immediate surroundings, which are heavily populated by expatriates and foreign workers. At night, the area can become congested with homeless individuals, which might make some guests uncomfortable strolling around after dark. The staff service, conversely, was excellent—very polite and friendly, always offering courteous greetings. Their response time was quick; when my room key suddenly stopped working (apparently locked from the inside), they resolved the issue within minutes. For those relying on public transport, the hotel is conveniently close to the Masjid Jamek LRT Station, approximately 290 meters away.
I have included photos taken during this recent stay. Readers interested in my other hotel reviews can visit my website at https://hanuds.wixsite.com/hanudds or check out my posts in this group. Thank you for taking the time to read! 😎
