Singapore Family Adventure: Tips from Our Recent Trip
We just got back from our Singapore adventure last week! It's been a few years since our last visit, and wow, prices have really climbed. Thankfully, booking our hotel through Travelgram came with a complimentary SIM card and MRT card loan, which helped a lot. Here are a few of our thoughts from the trip.
Accommodation: Royal Queen Hotel
Pros: Super convenient location, just a stone's throw from the Bras Basah MRT station.
Cons: The area around the hotel has fewer dining options and can feel a bit quiet.
Getting Around Singapore
During the day, for destinations a bit further out, we found taxis to be quite comparable in price to the MRT, but significantly more convenient. For example, a taxi from Bugis to River Wonders cost around $20 for approximately 16 kilometers. In the evenings, however, we switched to the MRT as taxi prices jumped, with a short 1.4-kilometer ride costing about $19-$20.
Gardens by the Bay: Cloud Forest
The Cloud Forest had a few dinosaur models, which the kids enjoyed. We visited on a day that was incredibly crowded, meaning we shuffled along at a snail's pace. Apart from the refreshing greenery, the dinosaurs themselves were fairly standard. If you've visited similar nature attractions, you'll find this quite familiar. The dense planting does give it a more jungle-like feel, which is a plus.
Suntec City: Superpark
We took the little ones to Superpark at Suntec, and it's a decent place for active play. However, the ticket price is a bit steep: $36 SGD for 2 hours, and adults pay the same to enter and supervise.
Universal Studios Singapore (USS)
We headed to USS on a Monday, arriving around 3 PM. Even at that time, the queues for the rides were long and the heat was intense. From 3 PM to 8 PM, we managed to experience only about four or five rides, with most of our time spent waiting in line. We left USS at 8 PM because the kids were exhausted and didn't have the energy for the Wing of Time show. The Harry Potter area was a highlight and felt like a new addition compared to our previous visit.
River Wonders
We opted for the boat ride experience at River Wonders, so we skipped visiting the new aquarium section.
Highly Recommended: Science Centre Singapore
For families with young children, I highly recommend the Science Centre. The kids were absolutely captivated and spent three hours enthusiastically exploring the exhibits. It was a fantastic way to keep them engaged and learning.
That sums up our Singapore trip!
