Your Guide to Applying for a Hong Kong Visa
Applying for a Hong Kong visa online is fairly straightforward. I'm sharing my experience from my recent application. I applied from South Korea as a student, but the process is similar to applying from Vietnam.
Online Application Steps
Start your application here:
Hong Kong Visa Application PortalClick the green "ONLINE APPLICATION FOR ENTRY FOR VISIT/TRANSIT in HK" button. Then, tick all the boxes, enter the code, and proceed to the next page.
Fill in all your personal information, intended entry date, flight details, and purpose of visit. In the "Details of Proposed Stay in HK" section, provide your intended entry date, the number of days you plan to stay, and select "visit" if you're traveling for leisure.
You can choose from Single, Double, Triple, or Multiple entry visas. The fee is the same for all types, so I chose Double instead of Single.
Required Documents for Upload
Prepare these supporting documents to upload to the website:
- Recent photograph (4x6, white background)
- Valid travel document: Upload all pages of your passport, including visas and entry stamps from previous travels (exclude blank pages)
- Proof of financial standing: 6-month bank statement + certificate of deposit
- Proof of transportation: Upload your flight ticket + hotel booking
- Other supporting documents (if any): My Korean ID card + enrollment certificate
Include a cover letter with these points:
- Introduce yourself
- Share your interest in traveling and exploring culture
- Outline your travel plans in Hong Kong
- Express your hope for visa approval
After filling in all the information and uploading the required documents, proceed to "Declaration of Applicant" -> select "applicant."
Tick the agreement boxes, click "SIGN," and digitally sign in the pop-up window. Follow the instructions and click "Submit."
The "Transaction Details" page will appear, take a screenshot or save the information.
Waiting for Confirmation
I submitted my application on December 13th and received the confirmation email on December 17th.
The "VOEV - XXXX-XXX" code is your application reference number to check the status of your application.
Visa Approval and Payment
I received the visa approval email on January 6th and proceeded to pay the fee. Although I applied for a Double entry visa, I received a Triple entry visa.
I advise to pay closer to your intended travel date for a longer validity period.
Estimated Expenses for 4 Days and 3 Nights
- Airfare: 264,000 KRW
- Accommodation: 160,000 KRW
- Disneyland Ticket: 2,000,000 VND
- Visa Fee: 42,000 KRW
- Spending money: 247,000 KRW + 3,000,000 VND
Spending can be lower if you cut back on attractions like Disneyland and shopping.
