When is the Best Time to Visit Hong Kong? 🇭🇰
This is a question frequently asked within the REVIEW DU LỊCH HONG KONG 🇭🇰 Group. The HKBH Team has finally compiled this article to share our insights.
While Google or ChatGPT can provide answers, they often lack practical insights. Let's explore each season in detail:
🌸 Spring (March – May)
Weather: Mild, with temperatures ranging from 17–25°C (63–77°F), occasionally with light drizzle.
Spring is a beautiful and ideal time to explore nature and traditional culture. Hong Kong has passed its peak season and hasn't entered the humid summer yet. However, fewer people may choose to travel during this period as it's right after the New Year holidays.
Holidays & Events:
- Lantern Festival (usually in February or early March): Lantern festivals are held in parks.
- Ching Ming Festival (around early April): People visit ancestral graves, which can get crowded.
- Easter (late March – April): Some attractions have special activities.
- April 30th - May 1st Holiday (very crowded, plan well in advance if visiting during this time).
☀️ Summer (June – Mid-September)
Weather: Hot and humid, with high temperatures (28–34°C or 82–93°F). Hong Kong's high urbanization can make the summer feel particularly stifling. Heavy rain and typhoons are also common during this period.
Holidays & Events:
- Dragon Boat Festival (Tuen Ng Festival – around June): Dragon boat races take place on the rivers, along with the consumption of special rice dumplings.
- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Establishment Day (July 1st): A national holiday with fireworks displays in many locations.
- Hungry Ghost Festival (7th month of the Lunar calendar): Traditional atmosphere with people making offerings to wandering spirits.
🍁 Autumn (Mid-September – Mid-December)
Weather: Cool, pleasant, and dry, with temperatures of 20–28°C (68–82°F). This is considered the start of the peak tourist season in Hong Kong, with major events and holidays taking place.
Holidays & Events:
- Mid-Autumn Festival (15th day of the 8th Lunar month)
- China National Day (October 1st)
- Halloween (October 31st)
❄️ Winter (Late December – February)
Weather: Chilly, with temperatures ranging from 10–18°C (50–64°F). Some days may be overcast or foggy.
Holidays & Events:
- Christmas (December 25th): The city sparkles with lights, and shopping malls are beautifully decorated.
- New Year's Day (January 1st): Fireworks welcome the new year over Victoria Harbour.
- Lunar New Year (around late January – early February): Flower markets, parades celebrating the New Year, and many shops are closed during the first few days.
💢 Practical Tips & Experiences
🌿 Regarding Weather: Hong Kong's weather is similar to that of Northern Vietnam, specifically Hanoi. HKBH will provide a separate article on checking the weather forecast later.
🌿 It's best to avoid major holidays, especially national holidays in China such as the May 1st Labor Day and October 1st National Day. The number of tourists increases dramatically, especially visitors from mainland China.
🌿 Hong Kong hotel costs vary significantly between peak season (from about October to the end of Lunar New Year) and the holidays. Prices can be double that of the low season, which is a considerable cost to consider.
❗️ Tip: Choose Off-Peak Dates Before Visiting Hong Kong
You can check the Disneyland Hong Kong ticket tier calendar. If you're planning to visit Disneyland, going on off-peak days is not only cheaper but also makes it easier to enjoy the park with less queuing, doubling the benefits, especially for many people, Disneyland is the highlight of the trip.
With these practical tips and experiences, the HKBH Team hopes to help you decide on the best time to visit. However, one more important factor is... obtaining your VISA early, as the waiting time for a Visa can be long, making it difficult to ensure your plans.
Wishing you a fun and smooth trip to explore Hong Kong! 🥰
