I just saved nearly 4 million for the Nha Trang trip in March just by changing my search method.
Seeing the recent Google Flights series on hunting cheap flights at 30% 50% off got so much support from everyone, so I'm sharing additional tips on hunting combo travel deals to save even more.
The story started very normally. I needed to plan a short trip from Saigon to Nha Trang for two people, 3 days 2 nights, and I aimed for Hon Tam Resort because I'd read reviews and liked it quite a bit.
As usual, I went to Google Flights to find flights first, then to Booking.com for rooms. Round-trip flights for two to Nha Trang were about 2.4 million, Hon Tam Resort room for 2 nights with breakfast about 9.2 million, plus shuttle fees from the airport to the resort another about 400 thousand (not including the return day). Total nearly 12 million, not including food and activities. However, looking at the list on Booking, I saw it shared the system with Vinpearl. So then...
Before clicking to book, I tried one step that I rarely thought of before: going straight to the Vinpearl website and finding the combo section.
The result made me look at it several times because I couldn't believe it. The Vinpearl Hon Tam Resort Nha Trang combo for 3 days 2 nights for 2 people including round-trip Vietjet flights from HCM, 2 nights standard room, daily buffet breakfast, and shuttle from airport to resort only about 8.5 million. That is, nearly 3.5 million cheaper than piecing it together myself, and no need to worry about shuttle from airport - resort (about 400k per way) or booking additional transfer services.
The reason is Vinpearl owns both the resort and the transfer vehicles themselves, they partner with airlines to sell wholesale combos instead of individual services. When you piece it together yourself, you're buying everything at retail prices from each side.
Additionally, after booking the combo, I also found a Vinpearl discount code for online bookings, applying a few hundred thousand more off.
How to do it:
Before searching for individual flights and rooms, go straight to vinpearl.com or sungroup.com.vn and find the Combo or Travel Package section.
Select destination, number of days and number of people, compare combo price with total cost if piecing together yourself.
Pay attention to additional benefits like transfers, meals, activity tickets because these are the most expensive if bought separately.
Find Vinpearl or Sunworld discount codes on channels like Shopee Voucher, Google or deal groups before payment.
If traveling in a group or family with children, remember to ask about surcharges to calculate the total cost correctly.
Important additional tip: Vinpearl and Sunworld often have special combos during brand birthdays, major holidays or New Year. January and September periods usually have the most deals. Set up Google Alert with keywords "Vinpearl combo discount" or "Sunworld promotion" to catch deals right when new info comes out, just like I shared in the previous article is the most accurate.
This tip is especially effective for destinations in the system like Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Ha Long, Nam Hoi An. These are all places where Vinpearl and Sungroup have large resort systems and often release flight-inclusive combos.
In summary: don't open Google Flights first. Open Vinpearl and Sungroup first, see how much the combo costs, then compare with piecing it together yourself. Many people spend tens of millions on a trip but just need this one simple extra search step to save 30 to 50 percent.
