MALDIVES VISA-FREE BUT DO YOU KNOW THERE'S ONE MORE STEP? 🏝️
Many people have booked tickets to Maldives from VN (usually transiting KUL) because prices are cheap under 8tr round trip, booked the resort already but forgot this — Maldives Entry Declaration Card, also known as Traveller Declaration. This is a mandatory document for ALL international tourists entering Maldives, including Vietnamese people even though no visa is required.
Good news is it's completely free, takes about 5–10 minutes on your phone, and can be done right from Vietnam before flying.
However, there's one important thing: you can only submit it within 96 hours before flight time, meaning earliest 4 days before arrival. For example, if flying on 10/3, earliest do it from 6/3 only. Remember not to wait until the last minute and forget.
And a warning right away — there are many fake websites charging from 30 to 100 dollars for this form. The official website of Maldives Government is imuga.immigration.gov.mv, completely free, don't pay money to any other site.
How to do it as follows:
Go to imuga.immigration.gov.mv then click on Traveller Declaration, select New Declaration.
First step is select purpose of trip. Most people select Holiday because going for tourism and resort.
Second step is fill personal information exactly as in passport, including name, surname, gender, date of birth, passport number, passport expiry date, nationality select Vietnamese, country of residence select Vietnam, email and phone number. This part can scan passport to auto-fill quickly, or skip and fill manually also ok. Don't forget to upload portrait photo, clear face selfie is fine, JPG or PNG format, not over 6MB.
Third step is flight information. Arrival part fill country of departure, arrival airport usually Velana International Airport in Male, arrival date, flight number, booking reference PNR and number of days staying. Accommodation part select name of resort or hotel you booked, if staying multiple places select all. Departure part fill airport leaving Maldives, departure date and next country after leaving Maldives.
Fourth step is health declaration. Only one main question is whether you have passed through or transited countries with Yellow Fever epidemic in the past 6 days. Most guests from Vietnam select No. If you transit through some African or South American countries then need to check this question.
Fifth step is customs declaration. Answer two simple questions: do you carry prohibited goods or over limit, and when leaving Maldives do you carry similar things. Normally just select No is done.
After completing, the system will generate a QR code and send to the email you registered. Save this QR code on your phone or print it out, because you need to show it to customs officers both upon arrival and departure from Maldives.
Prepare in advance and done, the trip will be much lighter. Anyone has questions leave comment below, I will answer! 🌊
