Dim Tu Tac: Savor Authentic Chinese Cuisine in Ho Chi Minh City

Dim Tu Tac – For those who love Chinese food - Eat once and remember forever

Located on Dong Du Street, District 1, Dim Tu Tac is a name that almost everyone who eats Chinese food in Saigon knows. The restaurant is near Nguyen Hue walking street, in a great location, with spacious and airy space, cozy decor in the style of a Hong Kong restaurant.

Dimsum and roast duck – two things you can't miss

Many people say straight out: if asked about Dimsum and authentic Chinese dishes in Saigon, you can't skip Dim Tu Tac. Beijing roast duck is the most praised dish – crispy skin, golden brown and shiny, tender and juicy meat inside. Eat it with rice paper rolls or as is, both delicious. Some call it outright "one of the best roast duck places in Saigon with authentic Chinese taste".

Dimsum is diverse, each dish seasoned just right. Shrimp rolled rice sheets are especially praised – soft and smooth outer layer, crispy inside, served with delicious sauce. Steamed ribs with soy sauce, three-style roast suckling pig, chicken feet – each has its own flavor, not bland. Crispy skin abalone chicken with tender juicy meat, served with shredded scallions and carrots, very enjoyable.

In addition, there are many evening dishes like stir-fried beef ho fun, stir-fried duck noodles, stir-fried choy sum with oyster sauce, stir-fried yardlong beans with minced meat. They look simple but the flavors are hard to replicate at home like that. Mushroom soup is also "the standout of that meal". Specially, there's a daily soup – each day the restaurant prepares a random type, trying your luck is also a fun experience.

Space & visiting times

The restaurant is crowded, especially at lunch and dinner. Some arrive before opening time and already see long lines waiting. Even at 8pm on weekdays, it's nearly full, waiting about 10 minutes is normal. Book a table in advance if going with a large group or on weekends.

Dimsum is only served until around 3pm. If you want to eat both dimsum and evening dishes, arriving before 3pm is the most reasonable.

Staff

Overall, attentive and quick. Staff continuously refill tea and replace plates and bowls – a small detail that clearly shows the Chinese restaurant service style. Even when crowded, staff remain soft-spoken and cheerful. Some customers even get takeaway gifts when leaving. The downside is sometimes too busy so not 100% perfect, a few tables have to wait a bit more.

Price

Ranges quite widely depending on number of people and dishes ordered. Most common is around 300k–500k/person. With a large group ordering many premium dishes, it can exceed 1 million/person. Note that the bill adds 8% VAT and 5% service charge – so pay attention when ordering to avoid surprise at the final total.

Compared to the central District 1 location, it's considered reasonable and worth it. Frankly, "a bit pricey but worth the quality".

A small note

In the evening, some dishes like char siu may sell out early. If you want to eat the full menu, come early or call ahead to check.
