BLUE LAGOON OR SKY LAGOON?
Going to Iceland, almost everyone will hear about Blue Lagoon. It's so famous that many people consider it a "must-visit just to know". And indeed, the first time, the feeling of soaking in milky green water amid lava rocks is very impressive. Warm water, silica masks, photos look instantly recognizable as… Iceland.
But if asking the real feeling, Blue Lagoon is very crowded, distinctly touristy atmosphere. Fun to go, but hard to sit still long for true relaxation.
Sky Lagoon is completely different. Not overly showy, serene space, infinity pool looking straight out to the sea. Sitting in hot water with the Atlantic Ocean in front, light wind blowing, very "Nordic" feeling. Here people are not in a hurry, everyone soaks in water, does the 7-step ritual then… silently enjoys.
If speaking truthfully:
Blue Lagoon is a place you should go once because it's an icon.
Sky Lagoon is a place where after going you feel like staying longer.
I think if time is limited:
First time to Iceland, want to check-in the icon → Blue Lagoon.
Want relaxation, quiet, true resort feeling → Sky Lagoon.
A small note learned after going:
both places should book tickets in advance, Sky Lagoon limits guests so nice spots often sell out. Sky Lagoon also only accepts guests from 12 years old and up, and if choosing time, early morning or sunset is most comfortable.
In summary, Blue Lagoon shows you what Iceland looks like.
Sky Lagoon gives you the feeling of living slower in Iceland.
