Vietnamese Currency Exhibition: 1500+ Artifacts Unveiled

Discovering Vietnam's Money Through History: A Must-See Exhibit

Today was truly exciting and an honor to attend the opening of the "Vietnamese Currency - A Journey Through the Flow of National History" exhibition at the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Branch Region 2, located at 8 Vo Van Kiet, Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.

What to Expect at This Historic Exhibit

The exhibition showcases over 1,500 currency artifacts from 1875 to the present, including Indochinese money, "Uncle Ho" banknotes, wartime currency, vouchers, purchase coupons, coins, and modern polymer notes.

My Personal Highlights from the Visit

I went in with a keen interest in the artwork on Vietnam's banknotes and curiosity about the stunning interior space of the SBV branch. In just 45 minutes, I couldn't see everything, but it gave me a real sense of the bank's long history, the evolution of currency, and Vietnam's iconic notes.

Impressive Organization and Teamwork

The team handled everything flawlessly—from welcoming guests and designing the exhibit space to leading the tours. It feels like the SBV invested heavily, bringing in young talent to collaborate and pull it off so well.

A Missed Opportunity for Art Lovers

One thing that disappointed me, based on my own expectations, was the lack of info on the artists who designed Vietnam's banknotes. For me, that's a key piece in understanding how these notes came to life and shaped our currency.

Plan Your Visit: Free Entry on Weekends

The exhibition is free and open from tomorrow until April 30, 2026, only on Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM. It's for visitors 14 years and older. Register at the counter or online in advance, dress smartly, and bring your ID card.
