Louvre Heist: My Unexpected Connection to Stolen Masterpieces
The news of the robbery at the Louvre Museum was simply astounding. When I saw photographs of the stolen jewelry in the news, a thought immediately struck me. I rechecked the images from my visit in February and realized that I actually had pictures of two of the items that were stolen.
I don't typically take many photographs of jewelry, so they must have been exceptionally beautiful to have captured my attention and camera. It's not just that these precious items are no longer housed at the Louvre; the thought that they might no longer exist in their original form makes my photographs of them incredibly precious now.
I was introduced to the fascinating Netflix series "Lupin" through recommendations here and quickly became completely hooked. This incident at the Louvre truly felt like something straight out of that drama. However, in reality, there must have been significant security lapses and various other issues at play.
It seems that entry checks at museums, especially the Louvre, are likely to become even stricter moving forward. While inconvenient, I suppose it's an unavoidable consequence.
