A Spiritual Encounter: The Bagua Lights of Chengdu
There are some things in life you simply shouldn't trifle with, especially when it comes to the spiritual realm.
On a night flight from Guangzhou to Chengdu, I drifted into a deep sleep almost immediately after boarding. Nearly two hours into this blissful slumber, just as the plane began its descent, I jolted awake. Peeking out the window, through the misty, scratched glass, I witnessed an astonishing sight: distinct streaks of light crisscrossing each other, forming a clear Bagua, or eight trigrams, pattern.
My immediate instinct was to capture this unusual phenomenon. I fumbled for my phone and snapped a few pictures, trying to preserve the image.
After collecting my luggage and taking a taxi to my hotel, I encountered the same illuminated patterns again on the streets. This time, I was 100 percent certain my suspicions from the flight were accurate. The Bagua pattern I'd seen from above, looking down, was none other than the city's intricate street lighting system. It was a moment that truly sent a shiver down my spine.
