Review: Parkroyal A'Famosa Resort Melaka Post-Renovation
Continuing my journey from Klebang, I stopped by a resort situated in Simpang Ampat, Alor Gajah. This location is within the A'Famosa area, and it is the former A'Famosa Resort, which has been operating since 1992. Last year, it was taken over by Parkroyal and officially reopened on March 1, 2024, following an extensive renovation process.
I booked my room through the Trip.com application, opting for a Superior room priced at RM288.66. This rate conveniently included taxes and breakfast for two people.
I arrived at the resort around 3:00 PM and headed straight to the lobby for check-in. The lobby area is spacious and open-concept, housing a counter and a restaurant on the same level. The check-in process was swift, taking only a few minutes. After receiving my room access card, I proceeded to my ground-floor room. The entire resort area is vast, featuring a total of 213 rooms.
The Superior Room Experience
The Superior room offers a generous size of 344 square feet. Stepping inside, one immediately gets the impression of a newly operational resort, despite its long history dating back to 1992. Upon entering, a large wardrobe is visible on the left. Inside, besides hanging space, there is a safety deposit box, a weighing scale, a prayer mat, and two sets of bathrobes. On the opposite side of the wardrobe, an iron and ironing board are provided.
Next to the wardrobe is a cabinet housing the mini-fridge. On top of it, amenities for making hot beverages along with several glasses are placed. The resort does not provide complimentary bottled water; instead, filtered tap water is available in the bathroom.
The sleeping area features one king bed and a relatively large round table beside the foot of the bed, complete with a chair suitable for working. Near the window, there is a sofa-like area perfect for relaxing. The room boasts a large wall-mounted TV, estimated to be around 65 inches, directly opposite the foot of the bed. The room includes a balcony overlooking the parking area, furnished with a small table and chair.
Bathroom Layout and Amenities
The bathroom is situated to the right of the entrance and is somewhat compact. It features a sliding door that cannot be locked. Inside, there are two sinks, a toilet, and a shower area. The toilet and shower sections are separated by a full glass partition, making the shower area completely transparent. The shower offers two types of spray heads. The resort thoughtfully provides a bidet hose next to the toilet. Complete toiletries, including toothbrushes and hand/face towels, are supplied.
Resort Facilities
One of the major highlights of this resort is its expansive outdoor swimming pool complex. There are several large pools, including dedicated areas for children. The pool operates from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The resort also features a 24-hour gymnasium located right by the pool, and nearby is the Kids Club.
Dining and Connectivity
For me, the breakfast spread was not particularly exciting, and the variety of food offered was limited. As usual, I only sampled a few items, which I found satisfactory. Breakfast is served at the lobby restaurant from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM. I also dined there in the evening and tried the Fried Bee Hoon, which cost RM35. While in-room dining is available, the prices are quite steep; for instance, Nasi Goreng Kampung is priced at RM59.
Connectivity within the room was excellent. The free Wi-Fi speed was incredibly fast, achieving download speeds of 263mbps and upload speeds of 247mbps. Mobile network speeds were also impressive: CelcomDigi clocked in at 864mbps, and Tune Talk reached 860mbps. The TV system offers numerous HD channels free of charge. Water pressure in the bathroom was somewhat weak, but ultimately acceptable.
Final Verdict
Having operated since 1992, despite the major refurbishment, some older aspects, particularly the landscaping, are still noticeable. However, the rooms feel new, very clean, and comfortable. The room rate is quite reasonable, hovering around RM300. This resort is highly recommended for family outings and relaxation, largely due to its large swimming pool area.
In terms of location, the resort is situated within the A'Famosa complex. For shopping enthusiasts, Melaka Premier Outlet is only about 750 meters away. At night, the resort area tends to be quiet, as it is somewhat distant from convenient shops. Visitors will need private transport if they plan to eat out or purchase daily necessities elsewhere.
