Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam: A Detailed Stay and Hotel Review

A Refreshing Escape at Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam

My recent stay at the Courtyard by Marriott Setia Alam, from January 30th to 31st, 2025, was a delightful experience. This modern hotel, which opened its doors in December 2022, offers a comfortable and stylish retreat, especially for those seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur. I booked my stay through the Trip.com app, opting for a King room priced at RM279, inclusive of taxes. I chose not to include breakfast in my package.

Seamless Arrival and Room Upgrade

Arriving around 12:40 PM, I was immediately impressed by the hotel's spacious yet simply designed lobby. Comfortable sofas are available for guests, and the lobby also houses a Starbucks and a 24-hour convenience store. The check-in process was remarkably swift, and I was handed my access card promptly as my room was ready. Although I had booked a King room, I was upgraded to a Deluxe room. While I'm unsure of the exact differences, the Deluxe room was listed as more expensive on Trip.com, making this a welcome bonus. The hotel doesn't require an upfront deposit, which adds to the convenience. I took one of the five elevators up to the 21st floor, where my room was located.

Exploring the Deluxe Room

The Deluxe room, measuring 312 square feet, felt quite generous in size. Upon entering, a large sliding-door wardrobe greeted me to the right, with the bathroom to the left. Inside the wardrobe, I found ample space for hanging clothes, a safety deposit box, an iron, and an ironing board, along with two bathrobes. Adjacent to this was a small cabinet housing a mini-fridge and tea and coffee-making facilities. A convenient luggage rack was positioned next to the cabinet.

The sleeping area featured a comfortable king-sized bed. To the left, near the window, was a generous sofa accompanied by a small side table. In the corner by the foot of the bed, a moderately sized round table and a chair provided a functional workspace, complete with a reading lamp. As expected in contemporary hotels, a large television, likely a 55 or 60-inch screen, was mounted on the wall opposite the bed.

A Thoughtful Bathroom Design

The bathroom, though compact, was well-appointed with a sink, toilet, and a spacious shower area. The toilet featured an integrated bidet function, and the shower offered two types of showerheads. A unique design element was the fully transparent, yet curtained, glass wall separating the shower from the bedroom, controlled by a magnetic system. The hotel thoughtfully provided a comprehensive range of toiletries, including toothbrushes, hand towels, and face towels.

Leisure and Amenities

Located on the 12th floor, the hotel's swimming pool is of a decent size, though its open-air landscape wasn't particularly striking to me. On the same level, guests can also find a well-equipped gymnasium and a sauna. The pool and sauna are accessible from 8 AM to 7 PM, while the gymnasium is open 24 hours, catering to all schedules. A cafe by the pool is open until midnight, offering a pleasant spot to relax.

Connectivity and Value

The complimentary in-room Wi-Fi was impressively fast, boasting speeds of up to 62mbps for both upload and download. However, mobile network coverage in the area seemed to be a point of improvement, with CelcomDigi showing speeds of only 12mbps and Tune Talk at 5mbps. The hotel offers basic TV channels, including news and sports, with most broadcast in HD. I particularly enjoyed the strong water pressure in the shower. For those preferring to dine in, the in-room dining service was reasonably priced; for instance, Nasi Goreng was RM32, Laksa Kari RM32, and fruit juices RM18. Parking is complimentary for hotel guests, a welcome perk for those traveling by car.

Prime Location and Overall Impression

Situated in Setia Alam, the hotel is about 40km from Kuala Lumpur city center. Its proximity to the Setia City Convention Centre and Setia City Mall is a significant advantage. A connecting pedestrian bridge on the first floor links the hotel directly to the mall. While weekends or convention events might make the hotel busier, my weekday stay was wonderfully quiet with few guests. Considering the price paid, which was under RM300, the stay offered excellent value. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and feels very new. I am already planning a return visit, perhaps to experience one of their suites.
