Wyndham Ion Majestic Genting Highlands: A Detailed Review and July 2024 Comparison

Wyndham Ion Majestic Hotel Genting Highlands: A Refreshing Stay with a View

My second hotel stay was right next door to the 1001 Nights Hotel, also part of the Wyndham chain. I'd actually visited this particular Wyndham property in July 2024, shortly after its grand opening. This time, I managed to redeem a RM200 voucher I received for becoming a hotel member, which cost me just RM88. After applying the voucher, my total came to a mere RM47.50. This rate included taxes but, as expected, not breakfast.

Seamless Check-in and Comfortable Accommodations

Arriving at the hotel counter at 12:45 PM, I proceeded directly to check-in. The process was swift and efficient. A minor point to note is the RM3 Pahang state government tax that guests are required to pay. Once I had my room access card, I headed straight for the lifts. With seven lifts available, waiting times were refreshingly short.

This visit, I was assigned a room on the 22nd floor. The layout was identical to the room I had in July 2024. The main difference? The view. This time, my room offered a tranquil mountain vista, a contrast to my previous stay where the room overlooked the bustling Genting Highlands peak. The room itself boasts a generous 376 square feet of space.

Room Features and Amenities

Upon entering, the bathroom is conveniently located to the right of the doorway. To the left, an open rack provides space for hanging clothes and a safe deposit box. Further along the left wall, beside the bed, a cabinet houses the sink and a mini-fridge. Above this, you'll find amenities for preparing your beverages. Between this cabinet and the bed, a comfortable single sofa and a small round table are positioned. A dedicated workspace is situated along the wall opposite the foot of the bed, complete with a 55-inch television mounted above.

The bathroom, though compact, is well-appointed with a sink, toilet, and a shower area. The shower features two types of showerheads and is enclosed by fully transparent glass. A bidet is conveniently placed next to the toilet. The hotel thoughtfully provides a comprehensive set of toiletries.

Recreational Facilities and Connectivity

Similar to my experience at Hotel 1001 Nights, the hotel's swimming pool is located on the 13th floor. Guests can choose between two main pools: one indoors and another outdoors. There are also several sizeable pools specifically for children. The pools are accessible from 8 AM to 9 PM. On the same level, you'll find a well-equipped gymnasium, a sauna, and a steam room, in addition to a spa.

While the hotel offers fairly speedy WiFi, its stability can be inconsistent. Speeds can reach up to 98mbps, but cellular data reception within the room was problematic, only accessible from the balcony. For CelcomDigi users, speeds could hit 130mbps, whereas TuneTalk offered a more modest 7mbps. The hotel provides basic TV channels, along with Vision Four, all in HD. Water pressure in the bathroom is excellent. Parking is plentiful and free for hotel guests.

Personal Reflections and Local Attractions

Personally, I have a strong liking for both the Wyndham Ion Majestic and Hotel 1001 Nights. Beyond the cool climate, the views from these hotels are simply breathtaking. The similarities are striking, as they share many facilities within the Wyndham Ion Majestic building. For Hard Rock Cafe aficionados, a new outlet has recently opened on the 50th floor of the hotel. You'll also find a small HRC store in the lobby of the Wyndham Ion Majestic. A unique draw here is the Hard Rock Cafe's swimming pool, situated adjacent to the cafe on the 50th floor. Access to this pool costs RM120 and includes an HRC towel and light snacks.

Both hotels are conveniently located about 5km from SkyAvenue, at the peak of Genting Highlands. The hotel offers hourly shuttle services to SkyAvenue, though this is not complimentary. The shuttle bus costs RM7 per person, one way. The Genting Highlands Premium Outlets (GHPO) are a bit further, approximately 10km away. To reach GHPO without driving, guests can head to SkyAvenue and then take the cable car.

I am definitely planning a return visit, as I still have two Wyndham Ion Majestic vouchers and five Hotel 1001 Nights vouchers to redeem. As always, I've included photos from my stay.
