Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur: A Fresh Stay to Kick Off 2025
To welcome the year 2025, I chose to stay at a hotel that recently opened its doors on December 18th. This new addition to the Hyatt family is conveniently located on Jalan Sultan Ismail, occupying the former Wisma KFC building. I booked my King Bed room through the World of Hyatt app for RM504.81. This rate included breakfast for two but, as expected, didn't cover the 8% SST tax.
First Impressions and Check-in Experience
Arriving around 1:30 PM, I headed straight to the reception counter in the hotel lobby. The lobby itself is quite spacious and aesthetically pleasing, with a cafe also situated on the same level. The check-in process was remarkably swift, taking only a few minutes. As is standard practice, the hotel requires a deposit. Using my credit card, they placed a RM700 hold to cover the room rate and the deposit. I was fortunate to be upgraded to a King Bed room that boasted a balcony, a welcome bonus as these rooms are typically priced slightly higher than those without.
Exploring the King Bed Room
With four elevators serving the hotel, waiting times were minimal. My room was on the 13th floor. Spanning a generous 409 square feet, this room type felt quite expansive. Upon entering, a sink area greeted me to the left. Directly opposite was an open shelving unit perfect for stowing luggage and belongings, with a hanging space above. Next to this, a mini-fridge sat below a coffee-making station and an electric kettle. The uppermost shelf housed a safety deposit box. Complementary bottled water and tea and coffee amenities were also readily available in this area.
The sleeping area featured a comfortable king-sized bed alongside a moderately sized sofa to its left. In the left corner at the foot of the bed, a substantial round desk and a chair provided a dedicated workspace. Directly in front of the desk was the door leading to the balcony. While the balcony itself was spacious, it was an unadorned space, lacking seating for guests to relax and soak in the Kuala Lumpur skyline. As is common in many hotels, a large flat-screen television, likely around 65 inches, was mounted on the wall opposite the bed.
Bathroom Amenities and Design
The bathroom facilities were cleverly separated. The toilet and shower areas were situated behind the luggage storage unit. Each had its own door, though neither could be locked. An interesting design choice was the absence of a bidet spray in the toilet area; instead, a modern flush bowl with an integrated small spray nozzle, controlled by a switch, was provided. The shower cubicle, while somewhat compact, offered two distinct showerhead options. All necessary toiletries were generously supplied.
Rooftop Oasis and Dining
The hotel's swimming pool is a real highlight, located on the rooftop on the 21st floor, offering breathtaking views of the Petronas Twin Towers. The pool is sizable, though it does not have a dedicated children's section. It is open daily from 7 AM to 9 PM. Adjacent to the pool is a 24-hour gymnasium. A cafe is positioned to the left of the pool, while a circular viewing deck to the right provides stunning vistas of Kuala Lumpur. From this deck, stairs lead down to another restaurant on the 19th floor.
Breakfast Experience
Breakfast is served in the restaurant on the 19th floor between 6:30 AM and 10:30 AM. While the menu wasn't extensive, it was certainly sufficient for my needs. I opted for a selection of nasi lemak and pastries. I must commend the nasi lemak for its excellent flavor, and the pastries were equally delightful. I particularly enjoyed the relaxed ambiance of the dining area, which was pleasantly temperate.
Connectivity and In-Room Features
In-room Wi-Fi was impressively fast, achieving speeds of up to 49mbps. For mobile connectivity, CelcomDigi users can expect speeds around 458mbps, while Tune Talk offers a respectable 98mbps. Water pressure in the bathroom was strong, and the hotel provided a good range of television channels, with most broadcast in HD. For those arriving by car, complimentary parking is currently available.
Value and Overall Recommendation
As with most Hyatt properties, the pricing is on the higher end, but in my opinion, it's entirely justified given the quality of the rooms and the facilities on offer. Being a newly opened hotel, everything is pristine and modern. I personally loved the interior design, which felt distinct from typical hotel aesthetics, with numerous beautifully decorated corners perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy shots. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. A minor consideration for some might be the lack of a bidet spray and the non-locking bathroom doors.
The hotel's location is undeniably strategic. It's a mere 750-meter walk (about 10 minutes) to KLCC, 950 meters (13 minutes on foot) to Pavilion Bukit Bintang, and 1.2 kilometers (15 minutes' walk) to the Kuala Lumpur Tower. For public transport users, the Raja Chulan Monorail Station is just 400 meters away. If the price point doesn't deter you, I would wholeheartedly recommend the Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur for your next visit to the city. I'm already planning a return trip to experience a different room category.
