My Juneyao Air Nightmare: Two Cancellations and a Hard Lesson Learned
We all know that airlines can have delays and cancellations, especially when the weather acts up. But if you can help it, steer clear of Juneyao Air on the Hanoi to Shanghai route and vice versa. I've been hit with two cancellations, and get this, the last one happened on a Sunday when there wasn't even a hint of bad weather!
The Allure of Low Fares
This airline has a knack for offering incredibly tempting ticket prices. You can often find one-way fares for just over 2 million or 3 million dong. Plus, their red-eye flights are a lifesaver for people like me who are always trying to squeeze in some shut-eye between commitments.
First Strike: A Flight Vanishes
The first time I booked, I had my ticket confirmation and booking code. The very next day, they announced a cancellation, automatically rescheduling my flight for two days later. Seriously, what are you supposed to do with that? I ended up canceling altogether and booking with another airline, then waited ten long days for my refund.
Second Strike: History Repeats Itself
Despite the bad taste left from the previous experience, I found myself tempted again by the cheap fares. This time, tickets around the holiday were quite pricey, and I still fancied a red-eye flight. So, I clicked to buy. Everything seemed fine, no notifications, my check-in counter and gate were listed – I thought, maybe that first time was just a fluke. I was ready to forgive and forget.
But as they say, life has a way of showing you. If you keep forgiving your ex, they'll inevitably pop back into your life.
The 2 AM Cancellation
My flight was scheduled for 2 AM. I was feeling relaxed, took a shower at 10 PM, booked a car for 11 PM, and then at 10:45 PM, they sent the cancellation notice. Can you imagine? Shocked and utterly bewildered. Think about business travelers, vacationers, or even families with elderly parents and young children heading to the airport, only to be told the flight is canceled. What about non-refundable hotels, pre-paid meals, and booked tours?
The Refund Saga
Then came the refund process. The first time, they canceled within 24 hours, so they agreed to a refund. This time, I got a message at 2 AM: Your refund request has been denied. Seriously? I wasn't about to accept that. Thankfully, I had purchased travel insurance through the booking app, so I filed a claim.
It's always wise to be wary of past mistakes, isn't it? Just like with an ex – if they suddenly become charming, it's probably best to proceed with extreme caution. Don't fall for the same old tricks; it's better to protect yourself.
A Swift Resolution
The good news is, I did get my refund! The app promised 3-5 days, but I received it in less than 24 hours.
So, that's my review for today!
It's rare for me to criticize a service so strongly, as I've really worked on my temperament and try not to hold grudges. If any of you have ever said I'm quick to get upset, you might need to reconsider that assessment – though, I suppose it depends on the situation.
