Hualien, Taiwan: Where Mountains Meet the Ocean and Yoga Flows with Nature

For four incredible years during my university days, Hualien, Taiwan, was my home. It has since captured my heart as my absolute favorite spot in the entire country, and I dream of returning to live there someday. I truly believe Hualien boasts Taiwan's most stunning natural wonders. There's nothing quite like waking up to the gentle chorus of birds and witnessing a breathtaking sunrise every single day. Join me as I share some of the must-visit natural gems in this magical place.

Discover Hualien's Natural Splendors

My personal experiences in Hualien have shown me that this region offers unparalleled opportunities to connect with the environment. From invigorating outdoor activities to serene moments of reflection, Hualien truly has it all.

Must-Visit Natural Spots

  • Baibao River: This is your go-to spot for a refreshing dip! You can swim, embark on an exciting river tracing adventure, or even try your hand at snorkeling in its clear waters.
  • Wanrong Hot Springs: Nestled amidst its unique natural surroundings, the water here boasts a mesmerizing turquoise hue. Soaking in these natural hot springs is the perfect way to relax and rejuvenate your body.
  • Baiyang Trail: A perfect summer escape, this trail leads you through a captivating cave and rewards you with the invigorating spray of a stunning waterfall.
  • Zhuilu Old Road: While relatively easy to navigate, this trail stands out as one of the most breathtaking routes among Hualien's mountainous landscapes.
  • Taroko National Park: Prepare to be amazed by the dramatic canyons and unique geological formations. Taiwan, as a geologically young island, features soaring mountains and magnificent rock structures shaped by immense earth compressions.
  • Dali-Datong Trail: This trail is steeped in the rich history of Taiwan's indigenous people. As you hike, you'll discover a historical chapel, a testament to the missionaries who established a presence here long ago.
  • National Dong Hwa University: My personal ritual involves jogging and practicing yoga here at sunrise. The views are simply spectacular and incredibly calming. Don't miss a visit to the Lakeside for a serene campus panorama.
  • Qixingtan Beach: Experience Taiwan's very first sunrise from this beautiful beach. The rounded, smooth stones you'll find here are a result of the river's patient erosion over time.

I have a deep love for nature, and Hualien stands unmatched as the ultimate destination in Taiwan to immerse yourself completely. I sincerely hope you get to experience all the beauty this region offers and have an absolutely wonderful time here.
