Embarking on a Rail Adventure: Unpacking the Diverse Hanoi-Lao Cai Train Experience
Lately, my passion for train travel has been growing by leaps and bounds. The challenge, however, lies with the Hanoi-Lao Cai route, where a multitude of companies are now operating unique railway carriages. It's a fascinating landscape of options!
A Mixed Bag of Carriage Comforts and Online Clarity
Generally, these private operators have outdone the standard railway carriages, offering more aesthetic appeal and a wider variety of distinctively branded products. Yet, when it comes to promotion and website information, it's often a digital desert. Some companies boast beautiful websites showcasing their carriages, but the content and visuals are incredibly superficial, sometimes even featuring 3D renderings from the design phase. It can be quite disappointing! Finding genuine contact information without stumbling upon fake sites also requires a bit of digging.
Figuring out ticket availability feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. My recent journey with Chapa Express was a bit better. Their booking website is reasonably functional, though some room types don't accurately reflect their availability, and a few room illustrations are still 3D mock-ups.
A Glimpse of Comfort: The Tonkin Heritage Grand Suite
I recently had the pleasure of trying out the Grand Suite Queen on the Tonkin Heritage carriage with one of these operators, and I was quite pleased. While there were a few minor drawbacks, they were insignificant. The most crucial factor for me was the cleanliness. In fact, I'd go as far as to say it was the cleanest train I've experienced in Vietnam so far.
The Hanoi-Lao Cai segment offers such a variety of carriage options, it feels like I'll need to take several more trips to explore them all. Stay tuned for my upcoming vlog reviewing the New Livitrans experience! As for other carriages like Damitrans, Sapaly, Family, Laman, and more, I'll be sure to document those journeys when my travel fund allows, so you can all see them.
Detailed insights from this particular trip are shared within each image. Enjoy the journey!
