Tianmen Mountain: A Scenic Journey Through Zhangjiajie National Forest Park

Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain National Park: An Unforgettable Journey

Have you ever experienced riding a cable car from the heart of a city, passing through towering buildings, crossing a river, and then winding your way up majestic mountains? Imagine ascending to an altitude of 1500 meters. This is the reality at Zhangjiajie Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park in Hunan, China, a renowned 5A-rated attraction. Every step here feels like stepping into a breathtaking landscape painting.

The Iconic Tianmen Cave

The undisputed signature of this park is the natural archway carved into the mountainside – Tianmen Cave, the very gateway to heaven!

Exploring Tianmen Mountain: Route A

There are several ways to experience Tianmen Mountain. This guide focuses on Route A, a journey we found to be the most comfortable and perfect for capturing stunning photographs.

Your adventure begins with a scenic cable car ride, offering panoramic views for approximately 28 minutes.

The Thrilling West Line: Glass Skywalks and Cliffside Trails

Upon disembarking, head straight for the West Line, where you'll immediately encounter the famous glass skywalks. Continue your exploration along the mountain's edge, traversing the Ghost Valley Skywalk. The vistas here are truly spectacular. However, if you have a fear of heights, be prepared for an exhilarating experience!

The East Line: More Photo Opportunities and the Descent

After reaching Tianmen Temple, instead of opting for another cable car to the summit, we chose to descend via the East Line towards Tianmen Cave. If you missed the perfect shot on the first glass skywalk, the East Line offers even more chances to capture incredible images. While the overall scenery on the East Line might not be as dramatic as the West Line, it's still incredibly beautiful.

After about a thirty-minute walk, you'll reach a series of escalators that will take you all the way down to the entrance of Tianmen Cave. Once at the cave's base, you have the option of climbing 999 steps to reach ground level or purchasing a ticket for 32 Yuan to use the escalators, making the descent much easier.
