Discover a 200-Year-Old Architectural Gem in Tien Giang
A Blend of Asian and European Styles at the Ông Xoát Ancient House
Known as the oldest house in Dong Hoa Hiep village, Tien Giang province, the Ông Xoát Ancient House stands out with its intricate blend of Asian and European architectural styles. Family records indicate that the original owners were Mr. Le Van Ky and Mrs. Pham Thi Lau, Ông Xoát's sixth-generation ancestors.
Construction spanned from 1818 to 1821. The house initially showcased the unique "house with beams" architectural style of Hue, featuring many details crafted from rare and precious ironwood.
Around 1920, influenced by the wave of Western-style construction sweeping through the southern provinces, the family added a French-style facade. This addition features prominent white, rounded, and straight cement columns adorned with Western-inspired floral patterns.
Despite the passage of time and numerous changes, the house retains its architectural features from centuries past. Today, Mr. Le Quang Xoát and Mrs. Doan Thi Tri own the house. Visitors are welcome to explore its grounds and capture its beauty through photos and videos free of charge.
