Paying in Thailand? Look for This!
Cross-Border QR Payment: Your Key to Easy Transactions
Headed to Thailand? When you're ready to pay, keep an eye out for QR codes labeled "Cross-Border QR Payment."
Go ahead and use your favorite Vietnamese banking app, like VCB or ZaloPay, or any other bank app you have, and scan the code. It should work like a charm! I've personally tested it with VCB and ZaloPay.
Whether other banks offer this feature, I'm not entirely sure, as I primarily use VCB. But it's definitely worth a try!
Good to know: Some restaurants and hotels in Thailand might not accept Visa cards, or they might only accept them for transactions over 2000 Baht. And sometimes, they don't accept cash at all!
A Word of Caution: Double-Check the Amount!
Be super careful when entering the amount for your payment. It's easy to accidentally type in a much larger sum than intended. Make sure to pay in Baht (THB), not VND!
Imagine accidentally sending 387,000 Baht instead of just 387 Baht – that's a HUGE difference!
Speaking from experience: I was ordering chicken rice once, which cost 387 Baht. My fingers just moved automatically, and I almost entered 387,000 Baht. Luckily, VCB flagged it, saying, "Hey, you're a student, you don't have that much money!"
If you're a bit wealthier, and you accidentally enter too many zeros, the payment might just go through! Then you'll have the hassle of trying to get a refund from the recipient, which is never fun.
