Shanghai and Henan: A Family Adventure with Kids
Following some amazing travel advice I received for my trip to China, I wanted to share my experiences in Shanghai, specifically catered to families with children (6 years and older). My daughter (8 years old) and I spent 7 days exploring Shanghai before heading to Henan province.
Shanghai Adventures
Upon arriving at Shanghai Pudong Airport, we hopped on the incredible Maglev train for a super-fast 8-minute ride into the city. We arrived at Longyang Road Station and then transferred to the metro to reach our hotel.
Must-See Shanghai Attractions:
- The Bund: A iconic waterfront promenade.
- Nanjing Road: Bustling shopping street.
- Xintiandi: A stylish district with shops and restaurants.
- Tianzifang: A maze of art galleries and craft shops.
- Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden): Classic Chinese garden.
- Disneyland Resort: (Note: This park is huge and requires a lot of walking. More suitable for kids than elderly relatives).
- Paradox Museum: Search it on Google. It's a blast! Buy tickets upon arrival.
- Shanghai Astronomy Museum: Located in the New Pudong area. Take Line 16 to Dishui Lake Station. From there, grab a taxi (around 20 RMB) to the museum.
- Shanghai Wild Animal Park: In the New Pudong area, Line 16 to Dishui Lake Station, then head to Wild Animal Park. See the adorable pandas and enjoy a fantastic circus show! (It takes about 1 hour to get there from the city center by metro).
- Haichang Ocean Park: Whale shows are a highlight. My daughter Osca loved it!
- Shanghai L+Snow Indoor: A fun snow park.
- Shanghai Natural Museum: Explore the natural world.
Henan Province Highlights
Our journey continued to Henan province, where we explored:
- Kaifeng: Visit the Prefectural Office of Bao Zheng (Justice Bao), which takes about half a day.
- Luoyang: Spend 2 days discovering this historical city.
- Shaolin Temple: Dedicate 1 day to exploring this legendary temple.
