Lyon's Architectural Gems: Musée des Confluences
Exploring Lyon: Part Two
Following up on our previous Lyon adventure, this week we journey to the southern part of the historic district, where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet. Here, nestled in a revitalized area, stands the remarkable Musée des Confluences.
As a devoted enthusiast of Paris, I regularly visit to study its architecture and design, both classic and contemporary. Every weekend, I share my discoveries of modern Parisian architectural insights. However, this architectural marvel in Lyon was too impressive not to share!
A Vision of the Future: The Confluences Museum
Completed in late 2014, the Musée des Confluences is a museum dedicated to science and society. Its design is the work of Coop Himmelb(l)au, an Austrian architectural firm.
Coop Himmelb(l)au has gained international recognition for its designs, including the Groninger Museum and BMW Welt. Their style is known for its bold and innovative approach.
The museum is intended to evoke a crystalline cloud, and the building boasts an incredibly futuristic design.
Beyond the Design: Wonders Within
The museum houses over two million artifacts. The two Tyrannosaurus rex skeletons are a major draw for visitors.
After learning about the T-Rex, the building itself started to resemble a dinosaur! It's truly an impressive site.
