Hangzhou Summer Escape: A Bamboo Forest Adventure
Discovering Yunqi Bamboo Forest (云栖竹径)
Just a short trip from the heart of Hangzhou, about 12km to be exact, lies the enchanting Yunqi Bamboo Forest. From my hotel, it was a breezy one-hour bus ride to reach this serene escape. Fun fact: this picturesque location also served as a filming site for the iconic movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon!
Getting There
Reaching Yunqi Bamboo Forest is easy! Hop on bus numbers 103, 1314, or 121, and they'll take you directly to the entrance.
Essential Info
- Entry Fee: A steal at just ¥8! (Alipay accepted)
- Opening Hours: 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM – perfect for a full day of exploration.
Suggested Route
Here's a little itinerary based on my experience: After getting off the bus, look across the road to spot the lonely tree (though it was unfortunately closed during my visit! :v). Then, follow the path to the ticket counter, wander along the wooden walkways, and explore Huilong Pavilion, Shuangbei Pavilion, and Huangzhu Pavilion before heading back to the entrance.
Important Tips for Your Visit
- Wear Comfortable Shoes: You'll be doing a lot of walking! Sneakers are your best friend.
- Bring Insect Repellent: The mosquitoes are relentless! Seriously, dozens swarmed me as soon as I stepped through the gate.
- Hydrate: Pack your own water bottle. There's only one place to buy drinks near the entrance.
