Long Thanh Airport Finalizes Flight Procedures

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has announced the completion of flight procedures for Long Thanh International Airport. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the development of this crucial aviation hub.

According to the Authority, this accomplishment is the result of dedicated, rigorous work and close collaboration between key entities. These include the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), military authorities, and other relevant organizations.

A National Priority

Long Thanh Airport represents the largest air transport infrastructure project in the country and a key national project. It holds strategic importance for enhancing transport capacity and driving economic growth. Consequently, the design of its airspace and flight procedure system has been a top priority, with resources focused on ensuring quality and adherence to schedules.

Details of the Flight Procedures

Specifically, Long Thanh Airport will feature a total of 68 flight procedures, comprising 27 Standard Instrument Departures (SIDs), 33 Standard Terminal Arrivals (STARs), and 8 Instrument Approach Procedures (IAPs). For comparison, Tan Son Nhat Airport has 107 flight procedures, including 73 SIDs, 27 STARs, and 7 IAPs.

The entire flight procedure system is designed to comply with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It incorporates advanced navigation technologies such as RNP 1 (GNSS), RNP APCH, ILS combined with RNP 1, and VOR/DME. These modern technologies are critical for efficiency.

Benefits of the New System

This advanced system not only enhances the efficiency and safety of flight operations, but also allows aircraft to land safely in adverse weather conditions. It reduces fuel consumption and flight times, while optimizing flight paths and increasing air traffic flow. The project will enhance safety.

Unique Design Features

Notably, the flight procedure system at Tan Son Nhat will continue to use the existing Point Merge method. In contrast, Long Thanh Airport will implement a Trombone-style STAR design. This ensures stability and efficient traffic distribution between the two major southern airports.

Ready for Calibration

The completion of the design and construction of flight procedures for Long Thanh Airport is a crucial precursor to the flight calibration phase. This brings the airport closer to its goal of commencing commercial operations on schedule.
