Taiwan on a Budget: My Hotel & Food Reviews (Plus How to Use Your Vouchers!)

Confessions of a Taiwan Travel Addict

I'm a Taiwan travel addict, plain and simple. Three trips in one year! As soon as Vietjet drops those 0₫ fares, I'm booking my next escape 😆. I want to share reviews of the hotels I've stayed in, hoping to help you choose the perfect place for your trip. I managed to use those 5,000 NTD vouchers for hotels and food – here's how!

Taiwan Travel Vouchers: A Savvy Traveler's Guide

A. Hotel and food vouchers are amazing, if you know how to use them! I spent time listing hotels based on price, proximity to the MRT, and overall value.

Hotel Highlights: My Taiwan Accommodation Reviews

1. Santos Hotel, Taipei (April 30th Holiday Trip)

Price: 6,500,000 VND / 4 nights / 2 people

This hotel isn't in the heart of the action like Ximending, but it's only 3km from Shilin Night Market. It's close to the red and yellow MRT lines, just a 5-minute walk. The rooms are quite spacious, unlike some smaller hotels I've seen in Taipei. It's a bit older, and has that distinct Taiwan smell – a slightly damp, carpet-like odor.

2. Hub Hotel Tucheng, Taipei

My Vietjet flight got moved by a day, so I stayed here Saturday-Sunday and booked late, making it a bit pricey: 1,800,000 VND/night.

Important note: It's far from the city center, located on the blue MRT line, about a 10-minute walk from the station. The hotel is small but clean.

3. Hub Hotel-Zhongshan, Taipei

Staying here during the week meant more options. Price: 1,300,000 VND/night. The room was small but clean. I rate the Hub Hotel chain quite highly! It's close to the red and yellow MRT lines, but about an 8-minute walk.

4. JBG Hot Spring Resort Hotel, Beitou (Relaxation Destination)

This hotel is located in Beitou. Weekends here are fully booked and expensive, so visit mid-week for some relaxing hot springs time. I booked through their Facebook page, messaged the staff about using the LKL coupon, and didn't need to pay a deposit. Cost: 3,000 NTD (used coupon) + 230 NTD in cash. The bath had a mineral water source that deposited dark residue on the pipes 🤭!

5. Check Inn Taichung Wenxin, Taichung

Cost: 5,035 NTD for 3 nights. I had to book on their website and pay a deposit of 1,511 NTD. I used my 3,000 NTD coupon here. The hotel is small – barely enough room for two suitcases – but very clean.

6. Somer Chew Hotel, Tainan

Because I stayed on the weekend, the price was a bit high. The hotel offers a decent breakfast, free bicycles (though the hills make biking a workout!), and is near some fun local markets. Cost: around 4,800 NTD, and I used my 5,000 NTD voucher here! Booked through their website with card details for the deposit, but no money was actually charged.

7. The Cloud Hotel, Kaohsiung – A 9/10 Experience

Close to a night market (with lots of Vietnamese vendors!), and near an MRT station. The hotel is reasonably sized, clean, and a good value at 800,000 VND/night.

Food Adventures: Voucher-Friendly Dining Experiences

1. Spa Spring Resort

Used 2,000 NTD for sushi at the Spa Spring Resort in Beitou. Their lunch set is delicious and affordable – I only needed to pay an extra 600 NTD!

2. Midtown Richardson Bo'ai

Also used 2,000 NTD here and paid an extra 600 NTD for delicious hot pot! Each person gets their own pot with tons of food, including beef and lobster!

I don't often take photos for reviews :3 I'm usually too busy diving into the food!
