Philharmonie de Paris: A Modern Architectural Marvel!
Discover a Hidden Gem in Paris's 19th Arrondissement!
Hey architecture buffs and Paris lovers! This is my 8th post, and this time, we're venturing into the Parc de la Villette in the 19th arrondissement to explore the Philharmonie de Paris, home to the Orchestre de Paris!
As a passionate admirer of Paris, constantly studying its architecture, old and new, I regularly visit the city. Every weekend, I'm thrilled to share the "Modern Parisian Architecture" gems I uncover!
Jean Nouvel's Masterpiece: Soaring Ambition and Stunning Design
The Philharmonie de Paris was designed by the legendary French architect Jean Nouvel, the mastermind behind the Cartier Foundation and the Musée du Quai Branly.
- Inspired by a Bird in Flight: The design is said to be inspired by a bird taking flight. The metal panels on the exterior are even shaped like... you guessed it, birds!
- Impressive from Afar, Jaw-Dropping Up Close: The building has a fantastic look. Standing next to it feels like witnessing a giant feat of modern engineering!
Rumor has it that the construction of this masterpiece may have gone a little over budget, I looked it up. In fact, the project cost three times the original budget! Yikes! The construction costs did caused some friction, to say the least! (-_-;)
Panoramic Views and Hidden Treasures
While classical music aficionados might already know about this place, it might be a little off the beaten tourist path for many.
Here's the insider scoop: The entire roof of the building is a FREE observation deck (check the opening hours!). From up there, you can spot the Eiffel Tower and the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in the distance! It's truly epic!
- Easy Access: A dedicated elevator whisks you to the top. Coming down, there's a gentle slope, making it easy on the legs.
- A Must-See: Even if you're not an architecture fanatic, this "secret" spot is worth exploring!
