Affordable Living and Friendly Faces
Panama is incredibly affordable, making it a popular retirement destination for Americans. The healthcare is shockingly cheap! I even had a personal experience with this. I injured my back and visited a hospital on Taboga Island (just a quick 35-minute ferry ride from Panama City). The cost? Only $2.50! That's right, two dollars and fifty cents for a doctor's visit and five days of painkillers. Unbelievable! And the people? Super friendly and welcoming.
A Whirlwind Adventure: Panama City, the Canal, and Taboga Island
This was a short trip – just five days – so I only explored the capital, the Panama Canal, and Taboga Island. As I mentioned, the cost of living is fantastic. I stayed in a huge, three-bedroom apartment in a high-rise across from the Continental Hotel, downtown, right on the beach. These apartments go for around $300k if you're thinking of buying! High-end hotels are around $125-150 per night. The food is delicious, and I especially loved the fresh and tasty sushi.
Dollars and Cents: Panama's Currency
Panama uses American dollars. The United States even helps print the money! The coins are different, featuring Panamanian designs, but all the banknotes are the same as US currency.
Villa Caprichosa: A Touch of France in Panama
My gorgeous hotel, Villa Caprichosa, was so beautiful it felt like I was back in France! There are plenty of activities to enjoy, from hitting the beach and kayaking to exploring the World War II bungalow and enjoying spectacular sunsets. Room rates range from $250-$750 – an incredible value for such a beautiful place.
