🇲🇾 Kuala Lumpur & Melaka: A Whirlwind 4D3N Adventure! ✈️
Get ready to dive into the vibrant culture and delicious food of Malaysia! We recently took a 4-day, 3-night trip to Melaka and Kuala Lumpur and are bursting to share our experience. Think street food, historical sites, and stunning cityscapes – all on a budget! Let's go!
Before You Go: Essential Info!
- MDAC Declaration: To be safe, we filled out the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) a couple of days before our flight. You can find it here: MDAC Registration. Even at KLIA2 airport, there were computers available for this, so no stress!
- Malaysian Customs: We were asked about the length of our stay and confirmation of our return flight – super quick and easy!
Trip Breakdown: Budget & Logistics
- Flights: ~6320k VND for 2 tickets (approx. 3160k VND round trip/person). We booked shared baggage allowance (20kg outbound, 25kg return) and travel insurance. Tip: Check in online 24 hours prior! AirAsia often pre-selects seats, and changing them can incur fees.
- Accommodation + 4G SIM: ~1430k VND for 3 nights (1 in Melaka, 2 in Kuala Lumpur).
- Food & Transport: ~7000k VND (Mainly Grab, buses, and the KTM train to Batu Caves).
Currency Tips:
- 1 Ringgit ≈ 5,51 VND. We exchanged about 600 MYR and also carried 100 USD.
- Grab is super affordable in Malaysia! With a local SIM card, you can use the app normally.
Itinerary: Let the Adventure Begin!
♦️ Day 1: Ho Chi Minh City to Melaka - Historical Charm!
- Flew from Tan Son Nhat (SGN) to Kuala Lumpur KLIA2 (approx. 1h30 flight). Malaysia is 1 hour ahead of Vietnam.
- Followed signs to immigration and baggage claim at KLIA2.
- Lunch at the airport food court.
- Bought bus tickets from KLIA2 to Melaka Sentral (buses every 30 mins) at the ticket machine - Visa card payment only (no cash!).
- 3-hour bus ride to Melaka Sentral.
- Grab from Melaka Sentral to Malacca city center for convenience. Taking the bus was a bit confusing due to unclear bus route information (we had to wait for the F100 at Panorama 16). If taking the bus, confirm the correct stop with locals!
- Explored Melaka's historical district, churches, and the vibrant Jonker Walk night market.

♦️ Day 2: Melaka to Kuala Lumpur - City Lights Await!
- Morning stroll through Jonker Walk, exploring museums, cafes, and antique shops (The Baboon House, Calanthe Art Cafe, Vanilla Crepe, The Daily Fix Cafe).
- Early afternoon: Bus from Melaka Sentral to TBS Kuala Lumpur.
- Important: Double-check the platform and monitor for announcements as our bus was delayed! Consider booking tickets in advance on Easybook.com.
- Evening: Explored the vibrant Jalan Alor night market in Bukit Bintang.
♦️ Day 3: Kuala Lumpur - Caves, Culture & Towers!
- KTM train to the impressive Batu Caves.
- Visited the Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery.
- Lunch and shopping at Pavilion Mall (Dayone Dayone Noodles), souvenir shopping for Beryl's chocolate, Teh Tarik tea, and Oriental Kopi.
- Walked from Pavilion Mall to the iconic Petronas Twin Towers for breathtaking views.
♦️ Day 4: Kuala Lumpur - Durian & Departure!
- Originally planned to visit ICC Pudu Market, but it was closed for the holiday.
- Lunch in Bukit Bintang.
- Indulged in Musang King durian behind Jalan Alor market.
- Headed back to the hotel to collect luggage and transfer to KLIA2 airport.
At KLIA2 airport, use the self-check-in kiosks to print boarding passes and luggage tags.
Important Bus Tip:
Remember to purchase a bus card in advance, as some buses only accept local cards and not Visa payments.
The Verdict:
Total cost: Approximately ~8000k VND per person. Would we go back to Malaysia? Absolutely! 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
