Aeromexico: London to Mexico City - My Honest Review!
So, my company booked this Aeromexico flight from London to Mexico City – not much choice for me this time around. Normally, I'm a British Airways kinda guy on this route, but their prices were, shall we say, a *tad* extravagant (double, in fact!). Here's the lowdown:
The Good Stuff: Virgin Clubhouse & Onboard Entertainment
The trip started off with a bang! Access to the Virgin Clubhouse in T3 is a definite perk. I'd say it's a step up from BA's Galleries lounge, though maybe not quite on par with their First lounge. Had some champagne and a Korean chicken burger – nice enough, but nothing to write home about.
The 787 aircraft itself looked promising. The IFE was a real win - tons of great movies and a cool moving map to keep me entertained.
The Not-So-Good: Boarding Chaos & Dated Seats
Boarding? Ugh. Total scrum, just like some of those South American airlines I've flown. No priority queue for business class – just a free-for-all to get onto the plane!
The business class cabin had a 2-2-2 configuration, and thankfully, I snagged aisle seat 1D. Direct aisle access is a lifesaver, and nobody's climbing over you to escape.
The Meh: Food, Service & Sleep
- Champagne pre-takeoff was a nice touch. However, no dinner menu was offered!
- You get 2 hours of free Wi-Fi and it was working great.
- The seat itself felt dated and not particularly comfortable.
- Dinner service was slow. No drink service, just straight into the meals.
- The menu was a mystery! The FA couldn't find it on my screen so I ended up choosing blindly between beef or chicken on pasta.
- I had Braised beef cheeks, green beans and potato gratin. That was the highlight of the flight. Dessert: cheesecake or ice cream
- Cabin lights were off during the meal service - weird!
- The flat-bed seat was narrow and uncomfortable. Sleep was... intermittent.
- Breakfast was a quiche. Need I say more? (I usually skip airplane breakfast anyway).
- Disembarking? Another scrum.
Final Verdict: BA Still Reigns Supreme
In conclusion: British Airways is still a better bet. Even their older config seats are way more comfortable. I'd gladly sacrifice aisle access for a decent night's sleep. The service and food on BA is also superior. Aeromexico has a lot to learn when it comes to service. It felt very functional for my business trip, and the Wi-Fi was appreciated. But the Virgin Clubhouse was probably the highlight!
