Rest Chinatown Hotel Review: My Singapore Stay!
Hey everyone! I'm excited to share my experience at the Rest Chinatown Hotel in Singapore. Let me tell you, the location is simply AMAZING! Think delicious eateries, easy access to the MRT, bus stops right outside, and the iconic Maxwell Food Centre just a stone's throw away. Plus, it's practically surrounded by stunning temples!
A Cozy 3-Star Gem
Rest Chinatown is a solid 3-star hotel that both my son and I really enjoyed. The beds were comfy, and the room was well-equipped with everything you need: soap, shampoo, conditioner, hairdryer, safe, and even toothbrushes! The staff were friendly, and the entire hotel (including the lobby and rooms) was sparkling clean and smoke-free. They even have umbrellas available for guests – how thoughtful!
- Pros: Excellent location, clean rooms, friendly staff, well-equipped rooms.
- Cons: Soundproofing could be a little better.
The soundproofing wasn't perfect, but honestly, it wasn't a major issue. The other guests were all very respectful, so no complaints there! The building entrance is a bit dated, but once you reach the 3rd floor and see the lobby and rooms, you'll be pleasantly surprised.
The Bathroom Situation (Just One Small Caveat!)
My only minor gripe was the bathroom. It lacked a bidet spray, and the glass partition was a little... *transparent*. Let's just say that if the light was on, you could *definitely* see silhouettes. Traveling with my son, I had to ask him to wait in the lobby while I showered. But honestly, it wasn't a deal-breaker for me.
Location, Price, and Ambiance: A Winning Combo!
Considering the fantastic location, reasonable price, and overall vibe, I think this hotel is a great option. If you know of any other hotels with a similar location, please let me know, as I'm still a little unsure about the bathroom situation!
Bonus: YUMCHA Dim Sum Restaurant!
Another huge plus is the YUMCHA dim sum restaurant on the 2nd floor! The food was delicious! I ordered 3-4 dishes, and the fish porridge was especially good. Perfect for a quick and easy breakfast before heading out to explore. Just a heads up, they're closed on Mondays.
Exploring the Neighborhood
You can easily walk to Maxwell Food Centre for breakfast (it's about 1 km). The hotel is right behind the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum and the Sri Mariamman Temple, making it super convenient for exploring on foot. As someone who loves visiting temples, this was a major plus for me!
It took about an hour to get to the hotel from the airport. Just exit at gate A and walk about 200m. I've included screenshots of the directions in this post.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, everyone has different standards for hotels, food, and travel. For me, I prefer clean, safe 3-star hotels with privacy (not capsule-style rooms) and convenient access to transportation.
I wrote this review to help you out, especially if you're traveling with a partner or close friends (you'd have to be *very* comfortable with them because of the bathroom!). If you're traveling solo, this hotel is a great choice for its price, location, and safety.
Happy travels!
