Budget Travel Guide: Cheap Bus from Shenzhen to Hong Kong Center

Many reviews have already covered taking the 15-minute high-speed train from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, but this is the cheapest way to travel from the Futian checkpoint back to downtown HK for those with plenty of time (and a tight budget)
- After clearing HK immigration, instead of heading down to the Lok Ma Chau MTR station, follow the signs to the public transport interchange
- Board bus B1, tap your Octopus card for 13.2 HKD, and get off at the Yau San Street stop
- Cross the street via the pedestrian overpass
- Board bus 268X, tap an additional 2.4 HKD, and get off at Prince Edward, Mong Kok, Yau Ma Tei, or Jordan
The total time is about 1 hour and 15 minutes, costing only 15.6 HKD
I haven't tried it myself because I had to haul a 20kg suitcase along with a large bag almost the size of the suitcase. The MTR is a bit faster, taking nearly 1 hour, costs 46.6 HKD, and you have to stand for about 40 minutes
The upside is that you can really feel how the two sides of the river are two completely different worlds
