Skip the Security Queue: How to Use Automated Gates at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai Airports

Say goodbye to long, exhausting security lines! I recently discovered a total game-changer at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai airports that many travelers are still missing out on: the Automated Border Control gates.

While stuck in a winding queue waiting for a manual security check, I noticed a separate area with high-tech automated gates and facial recognition screens. Curious, I stepped out of line to investigate and realized it’s a fully automated security system that only requires your chip-based ID card (CCCD). It’s incredibly efficient!

Here is how you can breeze through security:

  1. Preparation: Have your boarding pass (with the QR code—digital or printed) and your chip-based ID card (CCCD) ready. Head toward the automated gate section near the main security area and choose any available terminal. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  2. Scan your Boarding Pass: Hold your boarding pass QR code under the laser scanner. Wait for the beep, which confirms a successful scan.
  3. Verify your ID: Insert your chip-based ID card into the card reader slot. When the screen prompts you, align your face within the frame on the camera. Once the system confirms your identity, don’t forget to retrieve your ID card!
  4. Final Clearance: Approach the automated security gate. Position your face in front of the verification screen. Within a second, the automatic barrier will open, and you’re cleared to go.

The verdict? The entire process took me about 3 minutes—and that includes 2 minutes of figuring it out for the first time! Compare that to the usual 30 minutes of standing in a crowded line with all your luggage. This is a massive time-saver for any traveler. Give it a try on your next trip!
