Hiking Po Toi Island: Hong Kong’s Southernmost Gem

Whenever the weather clears up, I get the urge to head out and explore. This time, I chose Po Toi Island, famously known as the southernmost point of Hong Kong. Legend has it that the island was named after the local seaweed that grew in the shape of a prayer mat ("Po Toi"), which was once abundant here.

In terms of difficulty, I would rate the island's hiking trails as moderate. Surrounded by the vast expanse of the South China Sea, you truly feel as if you are wandering in the middle of the ocean. Along the trail, I encountered many fellow hikers and camping enthusiasts—it's a popular spot, and I’ve heard that on a clear night, the stargazing here is absolutely breathtaking.

Why Visit Po Toi Island?

  • Stunning Coastal Views: Enjoy panoramic ocean scenery from the southern edge of Hong Kong.
  • Moderate Hiking: Perfect for those looking for a rewarding trek without an extreme physical challenge.
  • Camping Experience: A favorite destination for campers looking to escape the city noise.
  • Stargazing: Thanks to its remote location, it offers some of the best night skies for stargazers.
