DIY China Visa Process in HCMC: Your Step-by-Step Guide

DIY Chinese Visa for 2 People in Ho Chi Minh City: My Successful Experience

Here's my step-by-step journey successfully obtaining a Chinese visa for two people on our first try, all done independently in Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to detailed guides from the community group, we nailed it from the start!

Timeline:

  • February 25, 2026: Submitted online application around 5:05 PM.
  • February 27, 2026: Checked the website in the afternoon and saw "Online Review Completed" confirmation.
  • March 2, 2026: Submitted physical documents at the Chinese Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
  • March 6, 2026: Picked up the visas.

The most time-consuming part was thoroughly reading the group's advice to prepare our documents perfectly. My top tip: Follow those guides closely for accurate application details.

Here are a few practical tips I picked up along the way—hope they help fellow travelers!

1. CT07 Form or Household Registration Book?

For my friend living in Ho Chi Minh City but with a Dong Nai household registration, getting the CT07 form from the ward office took forever with no updates. The application status just showed "newly created," so we opted for the provincial household book to speed things up.

To keep everything consistent showing residence in HCMC, we got a bank balance confirmation from a Ho Chi Minh City branch. I already had my CT07, so submitted as usual.

2. Savings Book or Bank Balance Confirmation for Financial Proof?

I heard rumors that HCMC consulate requires a savings book with over 50 million VND for financial proof. Too lazy to open one, we got a bank balance confirmation instead—and they accepted it! For 100% certainty, go with a savings book if you prefer.

3. Booking Flights and Hotels with Pay-Later Options

For flights, head to the Vietnam Airlines website, select your flights, and choose "pay later." Grab the confirmation email screenshot for your online application. Note: It auto-cancels after 24 hours if unpaid.

For hotels, use the Booking app, filter for "Free cancellation" and "Book without credit card," then pick from the options.

Crucial Note: Ensure 100% consistency in flight times, hotel dates, and your planned itinerary across all documents. Wishing everyone smooth approvals and safe travels to China!
