Tan Nha Rice Shop - a highlight of Cholon cuisine

The other day, friend Huong reviewed Song restaurant in Cholon, which reminded me of Tan Nha, also an old-style restaurant that does little promotion & people who come are mainly regular customers.
However, the school of thought that the owner of Tan Nha pursues is a bit different from Song, which is purely Cantonese cuisine. It leans more towards "East meets West", and the most comparable is probably Thien Nam restaurant at the corner of Nam Ky Khoi Nghia - Nguyen Thai Binh (this place even has two separate menus for Chinese & Western dishes).
Choosing dishes to start this review is a bit difficult because Tan Nha has too many choices. If going in a group of 4 to 6 people, should order 1 roast suckling pig with crispy skin and top-notch dipping sauce that later no matter how many restaurants I eat at, I can't find a better place. Followed by a few roast pigeons, hundred flowers crab claws, blood cockles Sichuan style, pork intestines and kidneys with ginger and scallions...
The feeling of stepping into an apartment building with a narrow path, dark stairs leading to a dining room that can only hold about 20-30 people is really interesting. Some customers also complain that it's too modest... Who knows, that might also be the philosophy of the owner wanting to preserve the emotions from a few decades ago of this special "rice shop".
