Don Mueang Airport Guide: Tips for Arrival, Food, Sleep, and More

Experience Landing at Don Muang

This article shares a few tips for using Don Muang Airport in Bangkok.

Except for times when I had to transit through Suvarnabhumi, every time I flew directly from Vietnam, I chose Air Asia because it lands at Don Muang. DM is smaller so all immigration and customs procedures are faster. The airport is small so walking around is less tiring than at Suvarnabhumi.

1. Immigration

Three days before your flight, you should fill out your arrival card online. If you forget, you can fill it out at the airport, but it will take longer. If you don't fill it out, you will be sent back to fill it out again.

2. Eating

  • Magic Food Court is located in Terminal 2 (domestic). From the Arrival Hall, turn left and go up to the 2nd floor, go straight toward the left continuously and you will see 7E. Next to 7E is a food court that sells food to airport staff, with reasonable prices.
  • Local style eating: From the Arrival Hall turn right and go to the end of the road, you will see the bus station. Cross the road from the bus station and you will see a pedestrian bridge crossing the road. Go down the stairs and you will see many Thai food stalls with very cheap prices. Across the road there is also a 7-Eleven.

3. Sleeping

  • At the airport: Go toward Terminal 2 (the direction toward Magic Food) and you will see many chairs. Opposite is a luggage storage room. Sleeping here is comfortable but remember to bring warm clothes.
  • Hotels, hostels: All require crossing the road via a pedestrian bridge:
    • Luxury: Amari - has a private entrance, prices from 1.8 million VND/night
    • Budget (hostel-dorm): A 10-minute walk from Amari to the left is Sleep Owl Hostel - prices from 150k/bed, quite reasonable. A 15-minute walk from Amari to the right is Youyen Hostel - similar prices, Western Vietnam style.

4. Luggage Storage

The luggage storage room is located on the 2nd floor - Terminal 2 (domestic) - budget price: 75 Baht/day

5. Getting to the City Center

  • Red line: Go along the road toward Magic Food Court and you will see signs directing you to the STR Red line. Buy a ticket and select the final station as Krungthep Aphiwat. Get off the station and buy a green MRT ticket to continue to where you want to go.
  • Bus: From A1 to A4, there are all bus stops at the end of the right side of the Arrival Hall.
