Testing the Chinese eSIM that doesn't require VPN on my 2026 China trip
The other day I had the chance to go to Shanghai on my return flight on Jeju, so I took the opportunity to review this cheap Chinese eSIM on Klook right away.

- Why did I buy this SIM?
No need for VPN and still can use Google Map, Zalo, Facebook, Tiktok as usual (For Tiktok, note to limit usage or turn off GPS because it's easy to get region-locked for 7 days)
I often use Google Map, Facebook so last time I went I had to combine several VPNs which drained battery and was too tiring so this time I tried this type, price is also cheap because when I bought it was about 20k/day with 500MB, can buy additional data on Klook if finish 1GB/7 days usage price about 36k. In general for me 1GB to 2GB/day is just right to use, next time if go longer I will buy the unlimited type for sure (^^)
The usage and setup method is simple, scan the eSIM to activate before being in Vietnam, then turn off that eSIM, when arriving there just turn it on to use immediately
Another note is it counts by day, so if you fly a night flight, arrive in China at 23 o'clock, then I advise don't activate right away, wait until after 12 midnight to activate then you will get to use until 24 hours, if activate at 23h then only have 1 hour of usage left.
To buy additional data then you open the Klook app and click into my trip transaction, will see remaining data and buy additional data also from Klook right away, quite convenient (^^)
- Compare price with carrier Roaming package
I use Viettel SIM, at first also considered roaming but saw the reference packages all TQ5 send 191:99.000d/5 days/2GB, TQ10 send 191: 250.000d/10 days/6GB, DRU7 send 191: 350.000d/7 days/7GB high speed (1GB/day), no limit so roughly calculated I just bought the eSIM right away to be done with it, less hassle like that.
