My Stay at Trigo Hotel Kuala Lumpur: Fresh & Affordable
Trigo Hotel Kuala Lumpur, located on Jalan Raja Laut, was formerly known as Plaza Grand Hotel. After Wyndham took over, it was revamped and recently reopened following major renovations. I booked a room directly through the hotel's website to take advantage of their opening promotion, which included free breakfast and a 24-hour stay. I chose the Deluxe room for just RM149.50.
Check-In and First Impressions
I arrived around 2:15 PM and headed straight to the front desk in the spacious, freshly renovated lobby. There's also a restaurant on the ground floor. Check-in was quick, with a RM100 deposit required. I got my room key card and took one of the three elevators to the 6th floor—no key needed for the elevators.
Deluxe Room Tour
The Deluxe room spans 301 square feet and feels quite roomy. Right inside the door, there's a large wardrobe on the left with hanging space, an iron, ironing board, and a safe. The bathroom is on the right.
In the sleeping area, a queen bed takes center stage, with a single sofa to the right. Next to the sofa is a small square table. On the left side of the bed's foot is a cabinet housing a mini fridge and tea/coffee making facilities. A large work desk with a chair and reading lamp sits to the right of the bed's foot. Opposite is a wall-mounted 40-inch TV. The room has a small window overlooking the back of the hotel.
Bathroom Details
The bathroom is compact, fitting a sink, toilet, and shower area. There's a bidet hose by the toilet, and the shower is semi-enclosed with a fully frosted glass panel. Basic amenities like toothbrushes and face towels are provided.
Amenities and Services
Breakfast is served a la carte in the lobby restaurant—choose between nasi lemak or Western options. The free in-room WiFi is speedy at 50 Mbps for both upload and download. Mobile data was even faster: CelcomDigi at 237 Mbps and Tune Talk at 177 Mbps. The hotel offers Google TV with no free channels, and water pressure in the bathroom is strong.
What I Liked and Minor Gripes
Overall, the hotel looks brand new, though some parts like the wardrobe interior, sink area, and portions of the bathroom walls are unchanged—just with new doors or paint. The room is nicely designed, but the lighting feels dim and uneven, leaving some spots too dark.
Free parking is available, but there's no elevator to the lobby—you'll need to climb stairs, and the parking area is still under renovation. Being on busy Jalan Raja Laut, it's noisy from traffic at night. No pool either.
Great Value and Location
At around RM150, it's a fantastic deal. Location-wise, it's just 650 meters from Chow Kit Market, 900 meters from World Trade Centre (WTC), and 350 meters from Sultan Ismail LRT station—perfect for public transport users.
