Kuala Lumpur Trip: 5 Days of Nostalgia & Travel Tips

5-Day Kuala Lumpur Adventure: Back After 23 Years!

It's been three weeks since my trip, and I'm finally getting around to sharing my review of a fun 5-day, 4-night getaway to Kuala Lumpur. I last visited 23 years ago and even worked at Batu Caves from 2002 to 2005, so this felt like a nostalgic homecoming.

Flight and Hotel Details

I flew from Bangkok's DMK airport with Batik Air—round-trip tickets for one person cost about 2.8 million VND. I stayed at Space Hotel Sentral, right across from Nu Sentral, at around 450,000 VND per night per person. Booked everything easily through Traveloka.

Getting Around and Eating Like a Local

Having lived in Malaysia before, navigating was a breeze—transport, tourist spots, and food choices were no problem. I stuck to a great Indian spot near my hotel at the KL Sentral Monorail station serving Nasi Kandar. It's open 24/7, the food's delicious and affordable, and their hot Milo drinks are the best!

Arrival Day: Smooth Landing at KLIA Terminal 1

My flight landed at 2 PM. Pro tip: Do online check-in at home to save time. Immigration was simple—they just asked for my return ticket, hotel booking, and trip purpose. After clearing customs, I grabbed a cheap meal at a local stall on the ground floor near the public transport pickup. To head straight to my hotel after the 2-hour flight, I took the KL Express train to KL Sentral for 60 RM per person (card payment only, no cash). For budget options, try the regular train (about 4 stops), or ask locals for the right bus to KL Sentral.

Day 2: Day Trip to Genting Highlands

Caught a bus from the discreet station under the KL Sentral-Nu divider (also the airport bus spot—first one at 3 AM). Genting bus fare was 15 RM per person, cable car around 28-30 RM (card only, no cash). In Malaysia, a Visa card covers everything—trains, food, drinks, you name it.

Day 3: Batu Caves and Lot 10 Night Vibes

Headed to Batu Caves via the commuter train. That evening, strolling around Lot 10 was the highlight—super fun!

Day 4: Merdeka Square, KLCC, and Chinatown by Bus

Explored Merdeka Square, KLCC, and Chinatown using the bus (no cash accepted). My ACB card glitched and wouldn't scan, but the kind driver let me ride anyway and wouldn't take cash—Malaysian hospitality at its best!

Departure Day and Final Thoughts

For my 10 AM flight, I grabbed the 6 AM bus to the airport. What a fulfilling vacation! Honestly though, Malaysia felt a bit melancholic with all the hills and mountains—perfect for homesickness if you're far from family. The weather was hot and stuffy, but other states like Ipoh, Pahang, or Johor Baru might be nicer.

Handy Tips from My Trip

  • KLIA Terminal 1 scans carry-on bags again before boarding—caught me by surprise!
  • Still lots to see next time: Putrajaya, Rawang, and more.
  • Exchange small bills only—50 RM notes? They'll shake their heads, no change. 20 RM is perfect.
  • Must-try: Nasi Lemak! 2 RM for rice, peanuts, and dried fish; add chicken for 8 RM.

That's my wrap-up—drop a comment or message if you have questions. Thanks to the admin and everyone!
