3N2D Malaysia Trip: $290 Budget Breakdown from HCM to KL

My 3D2N Malaysia Trip: Budget Tips & Real Experiences

Hey everyone! I just got back from an awesome 3-night, 2-day trip to Malaysia from November 1st to 3rd. Here's my honest review, including all the costs, tips, and personal takes to help you plan your own adventure.

Flight and Airport Hustle

I snagged AirAsia tickets from Ho Chi Minh City—morning flight out on Saturday and evening return on Monday. Total for two: 2,350,000 VND. Super affordable!

Entry into Malaysia was smooth for me (a guy)—customs barely asked questions, just wanted to see my MDAC. My girlfriend got 2-3 quick ones. Coming back from KUL to SGN, I breezed through the auto gate, but she had to chat with customs and got stamped. Pro tip: Head to Tan Son Nhat (TSN) airport 3 hours early. KLIA2 check-in was lightning fast—10-15 minutes—but that place is huge, so walking wears you out.

Getting Around: Bus, Trains, and Grab

Bus from KLIA2 to KL Central? No cash accepted—card only. Cost us about 220,000 VND for two.

We used trains and Grab mostly. Grab's the cheapest—starts at 8.30 RM for 1.5 km. For trains, download the Moovit app; it tells you exact stations and transfers from anywhere.

Where We Stayed

Booked Central City Hotel in Chinatown via a Traveloka combo (flights + hotel) for two people: 5,800,000 VND total. Queen room was 500,000 VND/night—decent for crashing after late nights, but no soundproofing, so it gets noisy.

Prime spot near everything, but it's basic. Fine if you're out exploring all day.

What We Did and Ate

Hit up malls like Pavilion, TRX, KLCC, plus Central Market. Thean Hou Temple is stunning but brutally hot. Batu Caves? Kinda smelly and dirty in my opinion. Don't miss Putra Mosque—gorgeous and spacious, though a bit far from downtown.

Breakfast at ICC Pudu—cheap and local. Packed on Sunday, but Monday only a few stalls open. Nasi Lemak at Oriental Kopi was solid too.

Tried Fatty Crab (17 km from KL center—MRT to nearest stop + 650m walk). Crab meat was firm and tasty, but the sauce wasn't anything special, just my two cents.

Souvenirs and Total Costs

Grab Beryl's chocolate as gifts—delicious and cheap at 8 RM per box!

Full breakdown for two: Flights + hotel combo = 5.8 million VND. Exchanged 1,020 RM for food, transport, souvenirs—had 300 RM left (not counting some cashless train rides).

This is straight from my experience—hope it helps if you're thinking of heading to KL! Safe travels!
