Pyongyang's Unexpected Pedestrian Tunnel: A Quirky Commute Under a Monumental Arch
A Curious Crosswalk in Pyongyang
As we were leaving Pyongyang, on the outskirts of the city, we stopped for a lunch break in a neighborhood to rest before heading to the airport. I wanted to cross the street to buy a few things, but I couldn't see any pedestrian crossing lines. I asked a young attendant how to get across the road. He pointed to a large archway.
Confused, I asked how an archway could be used to cross the road. He explained that at the base of the archway, there's an elevator. Stepping into the elevator would take us to the other side.
It's quite an ingenious design, though it seems a bit land-intensive!
