A Closer Look at Dusit Princess Melaka: Post-Opening Review
My stay at the Dusit Princess Melaka took place from October 18th to 20th, 2025. This hotel is strategically located on Jalan Bendahara, right in the heart of Melaka City. Interestingly, before being rebranded under Dusit International, this property was previously known as the Renaissance Hotel, having transitioned from the Ramada Plaza Hotel.
I booked my room directly through the hotel's website to take advantage of a special opening promotion. The hotel officially commenced operations on May 29th, 2025. The rate I secured for a Premier room was RM584.28 for two nights, which included breakfast for two people and all applicable taxes.
Arrival and Check-in Experience
I arrived at the hotel at 4:45 PM and proceeded directly to the counter for check-in. The lobby is spacious and situated on the ground floor. Upon entering, there was an immediate impression that the building had a history, despite the new branding. Besides the reception counter, there is a restaurant area where breakfast is served. The check-in process was swift, and I was promptly issued my room access card. My room was located on the 10th floor. The hotel is equipped with four elevators, and the waiting time for one was minimal.
Premier Room Details
The Premier room I stayed in offered a generous 398 square feet of space. Immediately upon entering, there was an open area to the right housing a relatively large wardrobe. Inside the wardrobe, I found a safety deposit box, an iron, and an ironing board. This area also included a cabinet housing the mini-fridge and beverage-making facilities.
In the sleeping area, alongside the king-sized bed, there was a long sofa placed at the foot of the bed. To the left, there was a substantial sofa with a square-shaped table at its end. A single armchair separated this sofa area from the bed. The work desk, which was quite large, was positioned in the left corner near the bed. A 65-inch television was mounted on the wall opposite the foot of the bed.
Bathroom Amenities
The bathroom is located to the left of the entrance and is quite spacious. It features a sliding door that cannot be locked. In addition to the vanity sink, there is a toilet and a shower area enclosed only by a curtain. There is a bidet spray nozzle next to the toilet, and the shower area offers two types of showerheads. Notably, this Premier room category does not include a bathtub. The hotel provided a full set of complimentary toiletries.
Hotel Facilities Overview
The hotel boasts a large swimming pool located on the 9th floor. The depth of the adult pool ranges from 1.2 meters to 2.7 meters. Adjacent to the main pool is a sizable children's pool. Pool operating hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. Furthermore, the hotel features a gymnasium on the 8th floor, which operates 24 hours a day. This floor also houses a sauna.
Connectivity and Water Pressure
The complimentary in-room Wi-Fi speed was quite slow at only 6mbps. For mobile data connectivity, CelcomDigi showed speeds of 456mbps, and Tune Talk offered 417mbps. The television offered a good selection of free channels, most of which were in HD. A standout feature was the water pressure in the bathroom, which was exceptionally strong—making the shower one of the best I have experienced in a hotel.
Dining Experience
Breakfast is served at the restaurant located in the lobby. The menu offered a wide and diverse selection. I had breakfast on both Sunday and Monday mornings, and the offerings were distinctly different on each day. I found the food to be delicious. The hotel also provides in-room dining service from 7:00 AM until 10:30 PM with reasonable pricing. For instance, Nasi Goreng (fried rice) was priced at RM38, and fruit juice was RM15. Complimentary parking is available for guests with vehicles, though the access route to the parking area was somewhat challenging.
Final Verdict and Location Value
Although the hotel reopened in May 2025, it does not feel like a newly renovated property. The general ambiance of the hotel and the rooms suggests an older establishment, not one that has just started operations. However, the hotel and the rooms were clean and comfortable. If one can secure a rate around RM300, I feel it offers good value. Its location is excellent, being close to Kampung Morten and only about 1km from Melaka City Centre. On Sunday morning, I enjoyed a pleasant walk along the Morten River to reach the city.
As usual, I have included photos taken during my stay. Readers interested in my reviews of other hotels can check out my posts in this group. To learn more about this specific staycation, please follow me on Facebook. Thank you for reading! 😘
