A Budget-Conscious Stay at the Wyndham Ion Majestic Hotel, Genting Highlands: A Detailed Review

A Wonderful Getaway at Wyndham Ion Majestic Hotel Genting Highlands

My recent trip to Genting Highlands brought me to another hotel under the Wyndham umbrella. This marks my third visit to this particular establishment, thanks to an unredeemed voucher. I booked my studio room directly through the My Tourism website, keen to utilize my voucher. The cost for one night was RM323, but after deducting the RM200 voucher value, my out-of-pocket expense was a mere RM123. This price, of course, was for the room only, without breakfast.

Arrival and Check-In

I arrived at the hotel at 4:00 PM and proceeded straight to check-in. The process was remarkably swift. A small Pahang state government tax of RM3 per night is applicable. I requested a room with a high floor and a mountain view, and I was happily assigned one on the 44th floor. After collecting my room key card, I headed for the elevators. With seven lifts available, I found the waiting times to be quite minimal.

The Studio Room

The studio room offered a generous 376 square feet of space, identical to the room I stayed in back in May. Upon entering, the bathroom is located to your right. To the left, an open-concept wardrobe area provides hanging space for clothes and a safety deposit box. Two bathrobes were conveniently hung here. On the left wall, beside the bed, a cabinet houses a sink and a mini-fridge, with amenities for preparing hot beverages placed above. Between this cabinet and the bed, there's a single sofa and a small round table. A spacious work desk stretches along the wall opposite the foot of the bed. A 55-inch TV is mounted on the wall above the desk.

Bathroom Amenities

The bathroom itself is compact, featuring a sink, toilet, and a shower area. The shower boasts two distinct showerheads and is enclosed by entirely transparent glass. A bidet is conveniently located next to the toilet. The hotel thoughtfully provides a full set of toiletries.

Hotel Facilities

The hotel boasts a swimming pool on the 13th floor, featuring two main pools – one indoor and one outdoor. There are also several larger pools designated for children. The pool area is open daily from 8:00 AM to 9:00 PM. On the same level, you'll find a well-equipped gymnasium, a sauna, and a steam room. A spa is also available for those seeking relaxation. I had the pleasure of dining at the hotel restaurant on the 12th floor and found their nasi goreng to be particularly delicious.

Connectivity and Other Observations

The hotel's WiFi could be a bit more stable, with speeds peaking around 33mbps. Mobile network reception within the room was also an issue, with usable signal only available from the balcony. While CelcomDigi offered speeds up to 113mbps, Tune Talk was inaccessible. The hotel provides basic TV channels, along with Vision Four, all in HD. I was pleased to note that the water pressure in the bathroom was strong. Parking is plentiful and complimentary for hotel guests. For check-out, I simply returned my room key card, though the wait for the elevator was a bit longer due to many guests departing simultaneously.

Personal Verdict and Nearby Attractions

Personally, I thoroughly enjoy staying here. The cool mountain air and the stunning views from the hotel are major draws. Beyond the facilities I've mentioned, a Hard Rock Cafe operates on the 50th floor, complete with a small HRC shop in the lobby. A unique feature is the Hard Rock Cafe's swimming pool, adjacent to the cafe on the 50th floor. Access to this pool costs RM120 and includes an HRC towel and complimentary snacks. The hotel is conveniently located about 5km from SkyAvenue, the heart of Genting Highlands. A shuttle service is available hourly for a fee of RM7 per way. For those interested in the Genting Highlands Premium Outlets (GHPO), it's approximately a 10km drive. Alternatively, you can reach SkyAvenue and then take the cable car to the GHPO if you prefer not to drive.
