We opted for a Joytel SIM purchased on Shopee, advertised as Telkomsel. While the provider wasn't explicitly verifiable at the time of purchase, we found the network connection to be quite inconsistent and unstable. It's worth considering other options or preparing for potential connectivity challenges.
Currency Exchange: Maximizing Your Rupiah
For the best exchange rates, consider converting USD at a bank. We found a significantly better rate on Nusa Penida (IDR 16,100 per USD) compared to mainland Bali (IDR 15,700 per USD). Since we were pressed for time, we exchanged currency with our pre-booked car rental service, who offered a favorable rate of IDR 1,695 for every Vietnamese Dong. We also noted that rates in Hanoi's Ha Trung area ranged from IDR 1,755 to IDR 1,815, which was higher.
Seamless Arrival: Immigration Insights
Traveling with children under six proved to be a real advantage! Our family was directed to a separate, expedited immigration lane, allowing us to clear customs with only five people ahead of us. The regular line had an estimated 70 people. A crucial step before arrival is completing the online declaration form at https://allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id/ within three days of your entry. This generates a QR code that significantly speeds up your family's entry into Bali. Skipping this step at the airport can lead to a lengthy and time-consuming process.
Your Chariot Awaits: Private Car Rentals
Traveling with a larger group, we opted for a private car service arranged through Kadek Maya. As a Vietnamese woman married to a Balinese local, Kadek Maya was incredibly helpful, especially with currency exchange. When we had some leftover Indonesian Rupiah at the end of our trip, she graciously exchanged it back for us at the same favorable rate of 1,695 IDR per VND, making the process stress-free.

Must-Try Eats: Warung Chef Bagus Kuta
A definite culinary highlight was Warung Chef Bagus Kuta, famous for its exceptionally delicious grilled ribs. Expect to spend around 250,000 to 300,000 Vietnamese Dong per person for a satisfying meal.

Bali truly shines as a destination for breathtaking scenery and incredible photo opportunities. While it's not primarily a beach-centric destination, every viewpoint offers an automatic postcard-perfect shot. The island's jade-colored waters create a magical, almost surreal, backdrop. The photos shared are unedited, showcasing the naturally vibrant hues of the ocean.
A 5-Day, 4-Night Balinese Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Coastal Charm
Our journey began with a 10 AM flight from Vietnam. Bali is one hour ahead of Vietnam. We landed at Denpasar (DPS) at 4:30 PM and proceeded through immigration. Our pre-arranged driver, who was exceptionally friendly and helpful, took us for a scenic drive along Kuta Beach, allowing for some initial photo opportunities before heading to dinner and our hotel. He shared fascinating insights about Bali throughout the drive.
Day 2: Nusa Penida's Western Wonders
The morning saw us taking a boat to the island of Nusa Penida. We spent the entire day exploring four captivating spots on the west coast of the island. The roads were quite bumpy and narrow, but our driver's expertise navigating them was remarkable; he mentioned he had been driving for 20 years. The scenery was unparalleled. A humorous moment occurred while trying to capture the iconic 'dinosaur backbone' shot, where my brother accidentally blocked the view of the 'dinosaur' itself! The tip here is to queue and wait for your turn to get the perfect shot with an unobstructed railing.
Day 3: Eastern Bali's Serene Beauty
Our exploration continued with four distinct locations on the east coast of Bali. Similar to the west, the scenery was stunning, but this side required less strenuous climbing. For those who wish to avoid a trek down to Diamond Beach, the initial viewpoint offers equally beautiful perspectives.
Day 4: Geger Beach Relaxation
Initially, we planned to revisit Crystal Bay. However, the rocky seabed proved a bit too uncomfortable for swimming. We returned to mainland Bali earlier and headed to Geger Beach. The presence of a wave barrier created calm, clear waters ideal for a leisurely dip. While the water was shallow, perfect for adults to wade in, children could still enjoy swimming without flotation devices. The waves were distant, making for a peaceful experience.
Day 5: Souvenirs and Departure
Our final morning was dedicated to souvenir shopping, followed by a delightful meal before heading to the airport for our flight home. We ended up purchasing an abundance of chocolates – a word of advice: refrigerate them as soon as you get home to prevent melting!
