Tokyo Tower: A Complete Guide to the Best Photo Spots & Hidden Gems

Tokyo Tower: Your Essential Guide to the Most Insta-Worthy Spots

Since its grand completion in 1958, Tokyo Tower has stood tall at 333 meters, drawing inspiration from the iconic Eiffel Tower. From July to September, the tower glows with a cool, silvery light, while other months see it bathed in a warm, orangey hue. Illuminating the Tokyo skyline from sunset until midnight, Tokyo Tower is a truly dazzling landmark. This historic beauty, predating the completion of Tokyo Skytree in 2012, primarily serves as a broadcast signal tower but remains a beloved destination for visitors. You could easily spend half a day here, allowing 5 to 6 hours to soak it all in. This includes ascending to the observation decks, enjoying a meal, and even capturing that magical moment when the tower lights up at dusk. Below, you'll find a variety of vendors selling tasty treats. We savored colorful ice cream and enjoyed delicious ramen in the food court – Japanese ramen is surprisingly affordable, often less expensive than in Taiwan, along with some seriously long fries!

Ascend to Breathtaking Views

A ticket to the 150-meter observation deck costs 1500 Japanese Yen. For an even more expansive city panorama from the top-level 250-meter deck, the price is 3500 Japanese Yen (approximately 726 Taiwanese Dollars). At the very top, you can enjoy a complimentary small drink of your choice. The views are spectacular, and the elevator ride itself is a dreamy experience with its dynamic lighting. Even the restrooms offer fantastic photo opportunities!

Souvenirs and Cherished Memories

We picked up a charming Tokyo Tower magnet for a modest price. With a JCB credit card, we received a 10% discount, bringing the cost down to 630 Japanese Yen. It's worth noting that not all shops offer this discount, so it's always a good idea to ask the staff if they accept certain credit cards for potential savings. We also invested in a professional photograph taken before reaching the highest observation deck. For 2000 Japanese Yen, we captured a beautiful souvenir, a lasting memory of our visit.

The Secret Photo Spot You Can't Miss

Shiba Park is currently the hottest spot for capturing stunning photos of Tokyo Tower. The real gem is located directly beneath the tower in the 'Tokyo Tower Underground Parking Lot.' A quick search for 'Tokyo Tower Underground Parking' on Google Maps will lead you to this hidden treasure. This once-secret location has become incredibly popular, with visitors lining up to get the perfect shot. Shooting upwards from the underground staircase exit makes Tokyo Tower appear even more imposing and grand, proving why it's such a sought-after vantage point.

We honestly waited for a full 30 minutes just to get this particular angle, and it was absolutely worth it! You can see it in the first photo.

I explored at least five different locations to capture various perspectives of Tokyo Tower. We even snapped a final photo of the tower lit up at night as we reluctantly departed.
