Songdo Seafood Pub: A Must-Try Culinary Gem in Thao Dien
A Taste of the Sea: Must-Try Dishes
This place offers a delightful array of banchan, each with exceptional quality. The cold noodle-like dish served with a bowl of ice is a standout, boasting a refreshing tanginess that's incredibly enjoyable. While the jelly pieces were a bit unexpected, adding a dessert-like feel, the overall dish was a winner. The savory pancake, infused with a subtle hint of seaweed, was perfectly executed, though a touch on the salty side.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the seafood. The presence of live tanks immediately signals the freshness and quality you can expect. Their signature octopus, presented almost wriggling with life, is a must-try. While the beef dish was plentiful, a touch of wasabi would elevate its flavor profile. The raw fish salad, particularly the grouper, is also recommended, though the dressing might be a tad intense for some. You'll be impressed by the generous portions of seaweed, and pairing it with sushi rice and seafood is a winning combination.
Vibrant Flavors and Textures
The squid tteokbokki is a pleasant surprise, featuring the familiar fish cakes and sauce but with a delightful twist. The tteokbokki itself is wonderfully chewy and soft, avoiding any doughy texture. The squid, however, is the true revelation. Its crispy yet tender coating is masterfully done, remaining delightfully fresh even after an hour. This dish is delicious on its own, but we highly suggest ordering white rice to accompany it.
For meat lovers, the pork jowl is a worthy indulgence. It's incredibly tender, melting in your mouth with a subtle, savory aroma. While a few pieces had a slight chewiness, most simply dissolved with each bite. Dipping it into the seemingly signature sauce enhances the already rich flavor.
Value and Atmosphere
The pricing here is quite reasonable, with generous portions ensuring you get great value for your money. The seafood is exceptionally fresh, evident from the live tanks where they are selected and prepared right before your eyes.
The interior offers a more intimate dining experience with small, private rooms. This provides a comfortable and secluded atmosphere, perfect for conversations. The staff are attentive and responsive, readily assisting guests with a simple glance.
Important Notes for Your Visit
Be aware that the opening hours can be a bit unusual, with the establishment closed on Sundays. It's essential to plan your visit accordingly.
Reservations are highly recommended! We learned this the hard way, arriving at 7:30 PM only to be told that the next available table was at 9:00 PM due to the restaurant being fully booked. On busy nights, it's impossible to predict the crowds, so securing a table in advance is the smartest way to ensure a dining experience.
Songdo Seafood Pub offers a truly satisfying culinary adventure with its fresh ingredients, unique flavors, and comfortable setting.
