Exploring the Magic of Dos Ojos Cenote in Tulum
My second adventure in Tulum led me to the breathtaking Dos Ojos Cenote, a natural wonder that truly captivated me.
Navigating Dos Ojos Cenote: Tickets and Tours
Upon arrival, I headed straight for the official entrance to purchase tickets. While several vendors surround the gate, their prices were significantly higher, around 500 pesos. The main gate offered tickets for 350 pesos, which grants access for self-guided exploration, swimming, and diving if you possess the necessary skills and equipment. The cenote itself doesn't provide any gear for diving, so you'll need to bring your own. For those seeking guidance and support, especially for diving, tours are available at 700 pesos per person. These tours include all necessary equipment and expert assistance. I opted for a tour because, despite being a competent swimmer, I felt a bit apprehensive. This was my first time diving in a cenote, making the tour a wise and reassuring choice.
An Unforgettable Dive into the Depths
Dos Ojos Cenote features two distinct pools. The guides expertly led us through the deeper sections, allowing us to witness the unique underwater landscape. To be completely honest, while the experience was fascinating, I didn't feel brave enough to venture into these depths a second time. Watching videos afterwards, you can see the dramatic limestone formations and numerous small fish darting around. Inside the deeper areas, large fish, some as big as my arm, swam near the bottom, keeping a respectful distance. Overhead, bats occasionally flitted about. Looking back at the footage now, it still gives me a slight shiver, as I'm generally not the most adventurous when it comes to water activities. However, I pushed myself to experience it, embracing the opportunity to learn and see something new.
More Cenotes to Discover
This particular cenote in Tulum isn't the largest. Mexico boasts an incredible array of stunning cenotes, and I'm eager to explore more of them. Even if diving isn't your preference, the cenotes offer fantastic opportunities for memorable photos, perfect for sharing your travel experiences.
